Warcraft III. Good or Bad?

Okay, I never planned on liking Warcraft games after World of Warcraft terrified me with it's ridiculous popularity and I don't ever plan on playing that game.

However, I do like RTS games, and I recently picked up a cheap copy of Warcraft III: The Frozen Thrones.

I have yet to turn it on though as I'm usually on the 360 but for when I do get back on my PC, is the game any good?

The only RTS game I've really played a lot has been Red Alert 2 and Generals Zero Hour but recently I've broadened my horizons a bit and I've been playin games such as Medieval II: Total War and Dawn of War II.

But how good is Warcraft III? I've heard plenty good things about it but cricic reviews make me weery sometimes. Because they sometimes end up praising a game that isn't as good as they say (is "Overrated" the correct word?).

What does it do better than other RTS games similar to it?

It takes me a while to play other RTS games long enough to get stuck right in so I'm pretty interested in this one, looks promising.

    Thanks :)

Yea it's an excellent RTS. The single player has a solid campaign and there's plenty of multiplayer game modes from the normal game to custom maps online. It's different from most RTS' in that it has a bit of an RPG element to it where heroes are the main focus of your army with troops supporting them.

Nice. Installing that today then so. Might come back with a personal verdict after a few hours into it.

The best thing about Warcraft III is all the custom maps that people play. There are so many, from tower defense to RPGs to arena battles.
The main one is obviously DoTA which is probably one of the most successful mods/maps of a game ever.

I'd say DoTA completely killed the actual vanilla warcraft III playing.

Warcraft 3 is a brilliant solo strategy game. The campaign in it is one of the most enjoyable campaigns I've played, and I've played nearly all of em! The multiplayer is 'ok'.

It's fun to level your guys up in multiplayer but the only probably is that creating units takes so long. So basically once you kill someones army or attacking force, usually what you have left over after that fight is enough to walk into their base and win. Thats my experience after playing it a lot online anyway, wait for them, kill their attack, steamroll their base. Still its worth getting for singleplayer.

Man its worth it for DoTA alone.
So many people buy it just for DoTA
