I have not personally user them but they are similar to other well known sites such as Owners Direct or Holidat Lettings ,all uk sites ,facilating holiday owners advertize their properties.
Try and google the property name and area you are interested in and you may find a link to the property web-site or you could request this via e-mail.
I have used similar sites in the past with no problem just proceed with usual caution, making sure you are dealing with a genuine owner.Good Luck!

Anyone booked a place with these before? Just wondering how secure it is? Good/Bad

I have booked accommodation twice through the site in Spain. It's very reputable! The owners advertise their properties and you deal directly with the owner through e-mail.
It was a very positive experience and I would recommend thoroughly.

Before you book a property you can get insurance out with Holiday Rentals by just filling in a form to indicate which property you have booked and what dates.
I woud also advise for your first time booking a property that has at least 1/2 reviews to put your mind at ease. Thats what I did. Any questions fire away!

I have used this site for the last 6 years with no problems.

ask whatever questions you really want to ask
    ask for more pictures
ask for second set of keys
    get mobile phone number

I have contacted the company about this insurance but they dont cover Irish residents, just UK.

Would there be any other company who would cover this type of thing?

Would your normal holiday insurance not cover it? What additional insurance would you need? Presumably the owners own house insurance covers them for any damage.

I'm more worried about the thing being a fraud as opposed to insurance against damage. The cover being offered on their site covers in the event of the accomodation being advertised fraudulently.

Query 28, I'm of similar mind to you! There are a few despicable scammers on trusted booking sites. For instance, at the moment, with Owners Direct, a Barcelona apartment - ref. S14333 is a lousy scam and it's still listed on their Barcelona site. Currently being discussed on TripAdvisor Barcelona.

As for myself, I usually book apartments with booking.com. Generally, I pay after I've arrived. It may be slightly more expensive than with prepaid sites, but at least I have peace of mind.

Used this site last year and had no problems at all. Where were you looking to rent?

Query: My husband was reluctant too about booking. I found some lovely properties on the site which had no reviews so I avoided those ones (again I was also worried as it was my first time booking through owners advertising on the site).
For the property I was interested in, I shot off an e-mail to get some feelers about the property and the owner. To be honest I trusted my judgement and I would probably be more wary of "apartments" in large cities.

Look the vast majority of people just want to advertise their properties and get holidaymakers to book their properties. It's annoying to think that a scammer or 2 have got through the net.........but i really would not let this put me off....I mean would "skimming at bank machines prevent you from ever using a bank cash machine again? We know it happens but we just take precautions that it won't happen to us!

I did not know that Irish citizens were not covered on holiday rentals/owners direct ...............that I must check out for future reference although I have annual hoilday insurance.

This is one of the properties I booked ( an apartment in Palma) so you can see what information helped me to choose it!

Well, each to his/her own, but bank transfers are a turn-off for me!

Well, each to his/her own, but bank transfers are a turn-off for me!

WE never pay by bank transfer!
We always pay deposit by "bank draft" and the balance on arrival at property!
If owners don't facilitate this then I would proceed with extreme caution :)

Another Native: Did you have a negative experience with a property on that particular site?

Have used bank transfer the last 7 times without a problem. A lot of the people you are booking from dont actually live there. We have never ever had a problem. You can always say you are not happy with it and could you pay on arrival and see what they say.
