You're on the job hunt and have just handing in your notice?
Just wondering why you didn't secure a new job while you have the old one

Nobody cares about your secondary school

But be prepared to talk about rugby if you go ahead with this.

They wont check so it'll be grand, your real problem being if someone in the place you are being interviewed for also went there. Private schooled south dublin folk seem to have lifelong bonds to their posh secondary schools (from personal experiences of them there folk) so you may be found out very quickly, tis a small world afterall.

    Without actually going??

I went to a regular (number 308 in the IT poll of 500!) non-fee paying school, got a grand leaving got third level etc.. and have 10 years experience in my field.

Handed my notice in and on the hunt, reckon the cv needs a pimpin and what could do this more than alumni of one of south dubs finest...

Whats the worst that could happen??

Google a few teacher names from ratemyteacher and presto.. just saved 30k!!

When was the last time you got your school checked*?

    *here come the stories!:D

    You are a tool.

Handing your notice in a strop, then faking fancy school on CV as your best fighting chance... A model employee if I ever saw one :D

once rock always rock. i'll be grand i'm not a jacob and could easily say i was a complete geek with no mates and was sick a lot. its a pretty brilliant idea this...

If you say so, but there is usally a culture that comes with these schools (almost like its own langauge), how are you going to bluff that when you meet someone from the school you lied on your cv about?

Also you can't be that good within your field if you think a stunt like this is required to bag you a job.

    You wouldn't be found out.
And you legally can't be fired for lying on your C.V. once you have the job.

    But the real question is;
If your CV is so weak that altering your secondary school would significantly strengthen it, is it really worth sending it out?:p

    Good luck with the hunt!

No you think you deleted all but 2 posts above you have quoted so we all now know what you said.

And just as a heads up- I caught out a candidate only 10 days ago about lying about being in Belvedere. The job offer was on the table but he cocked it up by lying about his school. He thought I'd never ring them but I know a certain teacher in Belvedere very well and I relished the chance to have a natter away. It soon transpired that the candidate was lying (I checked with another staff member in the College to cover my own ass) and now for the future he's on a radar spanning a number of people who work in recruitment.

Ireland's a very small place and blatantly lying about stuff like this will affect your future career.

hmm...Would you have bothered to check it out if he stated he went to "St. Whatever" in Roscommom which wasn't a fancy dublin fee payin school???even if you had known someone that was actually teaching in St Whatever in roscommon?
Totally agree with your point though that Ireland is a small place so it is a risky lie,,,but.. if you can get away with it (and continue on the the lie for the next 10 years or so!!) then wouldn't it be worth it.... nobody's getting any jobs these days anyway!!

He lied on his C.V. and thus can be fired for that. Not that the employer needs an excuse to fire him for the first year anyway...

Admitedly most recruiters wouldn't. However I run my own company so I always take any opportunity that comes along to talk to people in the hope of getting new business. For example I rang a principal in Kilkenny a few weeks back to check a candidates credentials. During our conversation I stated that I am recruiting for a Dublin based website and he then mentioned that his brother runs three websites. Roll on four weeks and now I'm recruiting marketers and web developers for his brother's websites. So that few minute conversation was well worth my while.

That said I always check anyone that claims they went to the Jesuits or any other fee-payers. Why? Simply because these schools are considered prestigious and that reason alone gives people an incentive to lie about going there, just like the OP intends to.

Of course, but the problem with any lie is that it stays with you and then you gotta keep lying some more to cover it up. If you intend staying at the same career level your whole life then yes, most likely you'll get away with it. But if you've got ambition and want to be running the show some day then these lies will come back to haunt you- when you go for that executive position you really want years from now then recruiters will be checking every single detail of your life- everything is up for investigation including searching massive online databases from where several versions of your CV throughout the years are reachable. So those porkie pies on a CV about your Leaving Cert results from ages back are searchable, can be discovered and certainly will be, especially when you're going to be in charge of massive budgets.

It can go even further than that. To illustrate I'll show you a search string I commonly use as part of my job:-

site:.ie "district court" AND "john murphy"

That's a boolean search string that, when put into Google, will show me results of every Irish website (.ie) that contains both of my search terms (District Court+John Murphy) in a single web page. If you copy and paste that into Google yourself you'll see in the results that it lists tons of John Murphy's who have been in the District Court for various offences and the details of their innocence or guilt. So very easily I can find out if someone has ever been convicted of drink driving, theft, fraud, etc, etc. Using other search terms, such as the address provided on a CV, previous employers, schools, awards claimed, uni education, clubs and societies that some says they were president/treasurer of, etc I can find out almost anything I need to know about a candidates claims on their CV. In short, if you claim something that is likely to be published on the web then a resourceful recruiter can find it.

Overall the OP's idea of claiming he went to a fee paying school is completely daft. Thise schools have websites and tend to use them quite well. If you went to the school you say you did on your CV then the web will show plenty of debs night pics on Facebook. From there its not hard to find out names of people in your year, and to ask them.

I've just figured out my email address on a CV is my username on youtube

Got a lot of controversial comments in a google search :pac:
Time for a new email addresss

I'll stand over my facebook and twitter account, nothing cringeworthy there at all.

Oh I've a conviction for not paying the TV licence, it doesn't show up in your search when I subbed in my name
    I escaped!
