How To Use AUX on Golf MK5

    Hey Guys,

I've an 06 Golf MK5 with the RCD300 radio in it. I can't figure out how to use the Aux function with it, I know it doesn't come standard on this radio but im my glove box it appears that one of the previous owners installed something for it. There's an 3.5mm jack, ipod connector and a usb connector in the glovebox but I can't figure out how to get them to play through the radio

There doesn't seem to be any power going to them because when I plug in an iPod it doesn't charge

Any ideas? I've tried pressing the CD button twice aswell

Is it possible the last owner was using a different head unit?

    No I doubt it,

Could it be that it just needs to be connected to the head unit at the back? don't particularly want to go ripping it out if I can avoid it,

also I've heard that you lose the CD player if you connect the aux, is this true?

That sounds like the wires that come from a Parrot MKI 9200 hands free kit. Trace the wires back and they will probably plug into a blue box. I dont know why someone would remove the kit and leave those wires.

Let me know how you get on.

Have you posted the same question on VAGdrivers? I'd imagine you'd get an answer there much easier than on a general forum like this one

Hmm now that you mention that, I've discovered that little parrot device that controls volume and pause/play - answer/hang up alright, but I haven't got that larger screen that it's in that pack you mention

I followed the cable as far back as I could but it goes straight into behind the dash - think I'll have to get behind the head unit

OK i'm actually just after finding that larger parrot control unit with the screen - underneath the non slip tray! I found it removing the tray so I could access the radio!

Very odd place to have it is it not?

Do a search on your phone for Bluetooth devices and see what comes up???;)

It doesnt appear to be on anyway... should it start with the ignition or is there more to it?

It should start up no problem. Check the plug going in to the radio and the power going in to the blue box. There may be a fuse blown or a power wire off.

Can you plug it in?? Is it connected to the radio by plug??

Check the power wire going to the fuse box to see if there is a fuse on it..

it seems to be plugged in, theres a bunch of small little cables connected into the power icon on the blue box alright., and that appears to go into the radio

where should i be looking for a fuse? in the blue box?

It must be a fuse so. Did you try a bluetooth search???

Dont open the blue box. There should be a red wire coming from one of the plugs going into the box that is on its own.

Have a look at the wiring diagrams here.

anyway I can sort the fuse out? where would it be?

I have noticed that in the bunch of different colored cables a red and black one have been cut if that makes a difference....

I cant see any other loose cables or red ones, just one labelled ignition which seems connected to something somewhere

Fuse could be anywhere between the kit and the box. Have a look at the link I posted as its very hard to say when I cannot see the setup.

Hmm that doesn't really help me out too much, wires don't look the well when they're wrapped up in tape and stuck behind the dashboard, I don't want to go pulling at too much stuff in case I damage the radio etc...

Don't suppose there's anyway I can use those cables to hook up to the sound system at all?

I think you should get a fitter to look at it if you are afraid of doing damage. Thats a nice kit and would cost you the bones of 250 quid to buy.

Ok well thanks anyway for all your help,

there must have been a reason as to why it was hidden away underneath the dash like that so I guess something went wrong somewhere along the line with it.

It does seem like a nice piece of kit alright, might get someone to have a look at it when I get the chance as It would be dead handy alright

    Thanks again

No bother. Any fitter worth his salt will fix that in 5 minutes.:)

    Is there a microphone anywhere?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 202 ✭✭robobobo

    Well you won't believe this!

Going back to this parrot system that I found hidden underneath my dash, tonight I was pulled in at a car park with the ignition on, and looking through my air vents I could see this light shining, had a look in and low and behold the parrot screen had turned itself on!

Turned off the ignition and it went off, turned it back on and it came back to life again! I was amazed to say the least, then did a bluetooth search and my phone paired up with it!

So when I got home took off my dash cover so I could get it back out (I'd left it in there out of the way since it wasn't working) and it seemed to be working perfect.

Then when I went to use the remote with it, there was no response so I'm guessing the remote battery is dead. After about an hour or so I went back out to look at it, and of course knowing my luck it didn't turn on anymore!

So here's what I'm thinking, the parrot screen was stuck down where my air vents are and this was the first time I had the hot air properly on since I bought the car, so I reckon the hot air caused some connection to expand somewhere and it suddenly decided to work, then once it cooled down, it stopped working because the connection shrunk and lost contact.

would that sound like a reasonable explanation? Could this possible mean it's the connection going into the screen itself?

Also I have never noticed any microphone installed around the car (VW Golf MK5) could this have been installed in some hidden location?

I know it's been a while since this thread was active but maybe you guys might find it again!
