Have you the BIS or BES add-on? What model pearl have you?

No problem ;) BIS is Blackberry internet services. It's how blackberry's really function as without it thjey are only good for talk and text. Some networks remove things called service books which you get from BIS. Some of these service books are the wifi ones and without them wifi won't work.

So you've wifi on and it can't detect networks or what?

If it won't work you could get wifi on pre pay with vodafone for 50 cent a say or meteor/emobile for 9.99 per month. Once you have it you can get the service books and then cancel the service. But really to get the most out of a blackberry you need the bis service on your account. It allows email to work properly.
