I ran License Crawler to find my product key in my registry and it came up with two very similar results. Here's what is said:

    \Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
    Product ID: xxxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxx
    Product Type: OEM Version
    Product Name: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Owner: xxxx
    Serial Number: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

    and

    \Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\DefaultProductKey
    Product ID: xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx
Product Type: xxx Full packaged product
    Serial Number: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Product ID's and Serial Number's are different. I would be leaning more towards the top one. What d'ya think?

my product key has a sequence of 5 characters x 5
    e.g. xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

i'd say your product key is the serial number

There is two serial number's given. I'm hoping someone can tell me which one is the product key that will let me re-install windows 7?

could you not take down both, one of them should work for the install?

Write 'em both down. If you put in the wrong one try again with the other.

have you got a windows 7 disc, or is it software that came with the system?

But if none of them are right? I know there's always the option of trying both but I was just wondering if anyone was sure -- if they've done it before?

I left my laptop with a fella to get fixed and he put in Windows 7 (from Vista) and left it back. I never thought to ask him for the product key.

I would imagine it's the one under
    \Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

The other set of info seems to be relating to a un-activated version of windows.

There is methods to deactivate your windows install, I would recommend doing that as it will give you the product key and then you can use it to register it after the install. Just google it to find out how as I am not sure.

    LicenseCrawler.jpg

If you look at this picture it seems as though it's suggesting that it's the one that says Product type, name and owner.

i'd say it has to be one of the two, could you not contact the person who put it on just to be sure?

    Yea that's what I said :P
It should be that one, the other one "DefaultProductKey" is just a generic setup.

Check which product ID is currently in use (instructions on how to do so here ) . The serial associated with that entry should be the current key
