Whats the biggest let-down of a car you've driven?

Have you ever driven a car that you had really high expectations for, only to be totally disappointed?

The first M3 I ever drove had the smg box in it and it was absolutely horrendous. One of the worst gearboxes ever imo. Then I drove a manual soon after and it was heaven! I never get tired of driving them now.

But the worst has to be the Maserati Quattroporte. I've driven two of them quite a bit in the last few months and they are awful. Such a let-down. The auto gear shifter is like a floppy toothpick. Its ridiculous! And the gear changes are terrible too. It only becomes bearable when you use the paddle-shift. Even then its not great.

    What about yourself?!? :D

As a child of the 70's I wated to have one of these so so so so so much, I eventually got a chance to drive one, shortly before I was going to buy one and have rarely been so let down in my life..... i just wanted it to be so good, but it was slow (even with a modified engine), had such awful handling, wallowy and the most unpredictable steering of anything I've ever driven. I was 25 at the time, and had trouble not to cry I was that disappointed. Here it is..................... :(:(:(

I once drove my uncles Porsche 924 for an evening and I thought it was a pig! Sorry:rolleyes:

When I bought my first Alfa Romeo years back I was furious how somthing so nice looking could be such a let down once too often.

2005 Mercedes CLK 200K, lazy auto, slow, vague steering, soggy handling, gruff engine note (not in a good way). Looked nice though.

Audi A8 D2 3.7 Sport FWD. I'd never driven a car that took minor road imperfections so personally.

    Passat B6 1.9tdi.

I wasn't expecting much tbh but I was expecting a lot more than it gave. Performance was woeful. Build was brutal. And the cost was frightening. Secondary ride was appalling.

I own my childhood dream car (Porsche 928) and it drives beautifully. Actually it drives like a small tank at slow speeds in town - but it does drive great once you hit the open road :D

How come your expectations were so much higher? Big heavy car with a tiny engine. Mercs like that are for comfort and style, not for handling
