    Hi,
I have a Renault Scenic 1998, There is a tag under the front window and a sticker beside the door with the vrt number.
NCT says it has to be stamped onto the body, he looked under the spare wheel and under the bonnet, but cant see it.
Does anyone know where this number is on a 1998 Renault Scenic, it passed 2 years ago, so it has to be there somewhere.

It's the VIN number you're looking for.

Did they fail you because they couldn't find it? If so that's ridiculous. They should have the locations from the manufacturer.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

yea that was me..ill ring renault liffey valley tomorrow to see if they know.

have the car around 10 years ,,bought it in carmac cars in inchicore, but dont think they are still around.

You would think the nct guys would know about this.

I guess it comes down to this. Can renault certify that all units of your model produced didnt have the stamped number?
If so, were they within their rights to sell cars in ireland without this stamped number and if they were, then surely the NCT people are not entitled to insist on it.

There has to be a stamped vin somewhere.

What if the car had been stolen and burnt out? How would it be identified??

There should be a stamped engine number which can also be used for ID.

You wouldn't for sure, but there would still be a 'paper trail' to follow from the engine number, even if it's not original.

Just to let you know,we found the number under the spare wheel.
It was so rusted over we could not see it,with a bit of sanding we were able to read it,and it passed nct.

Charge Renault for letting them know where the number is

It should have been on a plate on the bottom of the B pillar when you opened the door. Is there a chance the car had bodywork there before? According to my paint software, all Renaults have their chassis plate and colour code there.

Was it a stamped plate in the boot, or was it just the lettering stamped into the bodywork?

SO is this craic (read practice) of not accepting the VIN number on the windscreen or paperwork in effect for all cars being tested now?

What next? you have to track down the man who worked on the assembly line and bring him along to the NCT with you along with both his parents and long form birth certs?

And don't forget the Padre Pio relics and letter from the pope saying the owner is a good person.

I am glad I left Ireland years ago. :D
