Really confused by Ireland texting codes.. help??

Hey everyone.. so i'm from America and staying in Letterkenny this week until tuesday and I successfully called somebody I met here by dialing 0044************ and that worked to call them but when I go to send a text it says it can't send it? Any ideas? Thank you <3

Strange that it says it cant send. Usually if its the number you're putting in wrong it will 'send', bill you for it and disappear into the abyss
