P45 problem with my friend

My friend started a job today and his new employer wants his P45. The problem is he was working with his father's small company before this job and wasn't paying tax. He had that job down on his CV and is worried that if he hands in his P45 it will look bad if his last employer isn't listed there. Is there any way around this for him? Because in fairness he wants to work and this is a bit of a headache for him.

I don't know much about P45's myself so I thought boards would be the best place to ask for him.

he could ask the new employer for their Employers Reg Number, contact Revenue directly and register with the company and say this is his first time working this year. The new company will receive a TFA so there wont be a need for a p45.

Would it look dodgy though for him to be asking for registration number?

Not dodgy at all, companies get asked for their reg number all the time for many reasons whether its a first time tax payer or whether you're allocating tax credits somewhere else.

Your friend doesn't even need the employers number, they can just ring revenue, give their PPS number, tell them the name and address of the new employer, and once the employer is on the system, they will get notified of the TFA within about a week, less if they use ROS.
