What are the chances of selling a car now?

I will be putting my car up for sale next month as I am starting a job in London in September. The plan is to sell the car and buy the same car (but increase by a year or 2) when in London.

What are the chances of this though? I have been asking around and some of my friends are saying its extremely difficult to sell, is this true?

A quick run down of the car which may help with opinions:
    02 Celica - silver
Last year put in new tyres, upgraded shocks, brake pads and suspension (reason being I had the NCT and a bit of spare cash so decided to replace the lot) more into keeping the car in good condition than add-ons
    2 owners and upgraded stereo.
    NCT until 2012.
    Just under 100k miles.

I really don't want to sell it but its cheaper to sell here and buy over in England than changing plates and getting a new NCT.

    Thanks in advance.

Mods - I don't want this to look like an advertisement (it's not), edit away if you wish, just looking for honest opinions so I know what to expect when I do put it up for sale next month.

Pictures and which engine has it got?

TBH the best thing to do is look at ads and prices on Donedeal and then price it a bit cheaper

The engine is a weak point but all I can say is to make the best possible ad and check values on DD.

I'm not sure what its worth but a well written ad with very good pictures will help it sell

It all depends on the condition of the car and how much your looking to sell it for. Don't over value it and you could sell it in no time. Also, I wouldn't bother buying a car if your moving to London.

It will sell if it's cheap :)
20% less than similar cars and it will be gone.

Bring it with you to England. Re-registration is cheap.

Put up a decent ad on DD and your car will stand out from the 99.9% of other sellers. See 'Laziest car ads' thread for proof.

Throw up pics and full spec OP - we like pics!

How much do you hope to get for it selling it private? How soon you need it sold?

The congestion charge every day and parking.

    OP,
Sell your car here and use public transport in London, it works. Then if you want a car you can hire something nice or sign up with a company like Street Car.

If I saw 20% cheaper would be worried that something would be wrong

Sounds like a plan but depends on price. The only thing is that I will be based in Belfast for a few weeks from the end of August to end of September, then permanent in London. Street Car sounds like a plan. Will need a motor when in Belfast and no point using my car, might as well get english plates and drive down to London.

I would probably commute by train from the suburbs in London. Have a lot of family and friends around the outskirts of London who are not on the tube line so will need the car.

Would probably look for ~€4500 depending on what similar cars are going for.

Celica's in particular have lost alot of value over the last 2 years.

You won't sell quick at a 4500 asking price no matter clean it is for an 02. The market for them just isn't there esp for the lower bhp engine. Of course you could be lucky and get the 'one born every day' having a look but as rule you'll need to lower the price for a quick sale.

Have a look on the for sale section of the club site as wellas donedeal....www.celicaireland.com/forum as it'll also give you a guide to prices.

Good luck with the sale & the move. :)

You'll be getting 20% less than that anyway.
