Charging an AEG?

Congrats! hopefully you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Dunno about the charger you bought I'm unfamiliar with it.

Most people buy a Smart Charger that will could charge your battery
in an hour or two. Some of the other crappy chargers you could end up charging your battery for 8 or more hours.

You need to work out how fast your charger can charge! ie 1000mA / 500mA
or less, and what your battery capacity in mAh is

This webpage will work it out for your if you enter the figures
from your charger and your battery (which from the pic posted is 1600mAH)
    http://www.greenbatteries.com/batterycalc.html

    Be careful though.
Dont try and charge Lipo batteries on a charger designed to Nimh or Ni-cd batteries only.
Ni-cd batteries may only charge if your trickle charge them if your try charge them fast it may not be good.
Different voltage of batteries have different amounts of cells. 8.4v=7 cells 9.6v=9 cells etc.
on some chargers you need to select the amount of cells that your battery has.

Have a read of this if you are not sure of all the buzz words:

So on the charger it days it charges at 350-150 ma. Which value do I use?

Higher value with charge faster. If you have the option use that one. But if you have the time and are not in rush use the low one as using a high value alot (dont think it would be an issue here though) can wear down the battery

Battery capacity as linked earlier is 1600mAh
Charge rate 350 mA (pretty low!!)
Time to fully charge 5.5 Hours :eek::eek::eek:

I'd look to get a better charger!!

There is a UK based webpage which is fantastic for Airsoft Batteries,
chargers, leads, connectors etc ordered from them a few times without issue
and many other airsofters will mention this place too.

    http://componentshop.co.uk/

You can probably pick up a better airsoft battery charger from this crowd for
under 20 UKP! save ya lots of hassle in the long run if you've a few batteries to charge the night before you go skirmishing or playing/plinking. (nothing wrong with the one you have if your willing to keep an eye on it and not leave it unattended for too long)

I'm only using this one myself for all my batteries that I own and it works grand!
(I make sure I keep an eye on things though as batteries are being charged as they get warm)
    http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/body_mw6168vd-as.html
It charges at 1,000mA which is good enough for me and is only about 15 Quid (GBP)

The faster you charge the warmer the batteries get in my experience! you can get chargers that
fast way faster than this but I choose not to use one as dont want to risk heat damage to cells.
1,000mA is a nice handy medium setting. (I would switch down to 500mA if charging Ni-cds as a higher charge rate
may give a false positive for a battery being charged or simply not charge - again I know very very little about this and am only guessing or writing about personal experience so other people here my be able to provide you with more Technical knowledge)

like Bullets said, easiest thing to do is to buy a smart charger, just plug the battery to the charger and the light will go green when fully charges

A general (but rather basic) guideline is 1mAh per shot. So yes, a 1500mAh battery should last all day. That said, a second battery is a must in my opinion. Nothing worse than a battery dying, and not having a spare - it stops you from playing lest someone else has one...which is why I usually have 2 spares with me :)

I do wonder about that as I was using a 3300mAh today and have fired 5000 rounds with it and it is still going. However 4000 of those shots were fired continuously in 4 minutes. As you said it is only a basic estimation.

Second battery is always handy as you will never know what could happen so having a backup is handy.

Aye, it's a VERY basic estimation. A conservative one. It means you'll at least get that many shots.

You also hit the nail on the head; the back up is just that, a back up. It's not there because your battery will definitely run out - it's there in case it runs out, breaks, burns out, goes missing etc. Spares in everything are great :)
