A question to those that own a Golf Buddy Plantinum, is the hole visual a generic layout of the hole, or an actual layout? What I mean by generic is that say, its a dog-leg right, do all dog-leg rights look the same? Hope I'm expressing correctly

See an image of a hole shown here on their web site

I only got mine yesterday, and have only played 9 holes so far, but as far as I can tell the hole layout is an actual representation of the hole and not just generic, while it's not perfect it much better than I had expected and is a very good representation of the layout.
Btw I got mine for €277 delivered from the states (ordered last Tuesday and got it yesterday), the best price I could find here was €440.

I have the golf buddy world which is the exact same as the platinum and the full hole layout means just that,it will show the hole as it is i.e water hazards, bunkers also whether its a dogleg left or right great piece of kit.If your playing a course that you haven't played before you will see the actual hole as it is as long as it supports full hole layout.

I was going to buy one tomorrow, G.B. World Platinum then I and read this review which scared me a bit...

"We find that the Golf Buddy World Platinum golf GPS is overpriced for the functionality it provides and so we do not recommend it. With many maps included, but many of these maps lacking a full course layout, features that distract rather than assist, and an interface that’s awkward to navigate, we recommend that you avoid this product altogether. Regardless of how cool the company’s infomercial-like ads make it seem, there are far better golf GPS units out there for your money."

Any owners out there totally satisfied with performance please give me the final push!

Golf Monthly (June Issue) did a massive review of all the GPS available on the market. Sky Caddie(83/100) came out on top due to detail it offers etc. Golf Buddy(81/100) was a very close second and most people actaually reward it first due to having no subcription fees etc. The lack of subcription fees was my reason for buying it plus 40k preload courses, but this can have disadvantages at a later stage if GP decide to stop updating etc.

Personally I bought one last Xmas and can't play without it now. I've even got to follow my playing partners around and give them exact yardage etc. Only yesterday I play a outing were a 13 ha/capper was amazed with it and I reckon he'll buy one this week too.

The features are brilliant but expensive and if money was a problem I would buy the cheaper models without the flyover etc, but if you're going to be using this for the next 10 years its not much to pay extra for great additional features.

Nearly all course are now covered by the flyover feature in Ireland now.

In relation to saving you shots, well if you're able to fly the ball to greens, this devise should save you 1 to 2 shots a round has its the correct yardage to all areas of greens etc. I play of 19 and had 5 makeable chances for birdies yesterday on par 4/5's due to this devise on a course I never played before. Out of interest I land none of them.

Edit to say I got a bill from Fedex for V.A.T to the tune of €70 plus €10 handling charge plus VAT on the handling charge so in total it's going to cost me about €360.
Still I reckon it's good value as all the courses are preloaded (bar the full layout, which only takes 10 mins to download) and there are no recurring charges.

I got one 3 months ago for the same price, now theres a roblem with the screen and I just found out it was out of warranty in the States and Golf buddy in Europe wont deal with me. Apparantly they offer 2 years warranty compared to 90 days in the States

try swing by swing golf on any android phone.
100% free and lets you add any course via google maps.

Using it a lot lately and find it excellent!

Yeh but this run's very slow without a 3G connection and most golf course are outside the range for 3G or most of the holes are anyway.

Also phones aren't allow on most course so its not really a longterm option.

Tried out Golf Buddy WP last night on home course...

fact it is a mainly hilly course with a number of elevated shots is a bit of a downer but in general I found it very helpful.. gave good distances staightaway, no indecision or stepping out yardages, easy to use, holes identical on screen to real life etc... it will be a great device when playing away but will defo help at home too... clubbing for lay ups very useful....

Bought one about 3 months ago on Ebay and it turned out the seller lived in Dublin so I was able to collect and only cost €330.
I've been very happy with it and find it very accurate no matter what course I've played. Previously owned a Skycaddie and tbh would prefer the screen on the SC, but the accuracy and no subscription costs make up for it.
