    hi guys,

hopefully ye all can give me some good advice.

my sister just bought a brand new ford focus. she availed of the scrappage scheme but with my car. my car is worth nothing but as a result of the scheme she got 5000 off the new focus.

in return i will be getting her old car, a 06 focus(low mileage, well looked after) great deal for me obviously as i will give her only 1000 to make up difference.

where i need yer advice is that i hate the car and i want adiesel due to me doing a lot of miles each week. ideally i would like to trade down and buy a good diesel for 3 to 4 grand. or then should i keep this good reliable car

A good car with known history is worth a lot more then its book value and the modern diesels do seem to have there problems. I would hang onto the Focus for at least 3 to 6 months to see if it meets your needs and is cost effective.

Its said that the diesel option only becomes economically viable if your doing 25k to 30k km a year, so use the few months to see what your mileage is and then weigh it up.

On a personal level, your sister is doing you a huge favour here. She got 5k off a list price that has over 2k of haggling room.

The scrappage is worth 1250 and her car is worth around 5k.

She may be upset if you sell it as she might want to see you in a car that she knows and trusts.
