Really annoyed with Apple and MobileMe

I am very p***ed off with Apple and their MobileMe charge. On the 30.5.2011 I was charged the usual E79 for the service. This charge as you know is for a year. Then, a week later or so they announced that MM is being discontinued and replaced by iCloud.
I've got in touch with them and requested a refund but they told me to PFO, in a completely polite, wordy and Applespeak way. They knew bloody well the service was going to be extended till June 12 and it would be free. If my sub was due on the 8th June I would not be charged.
The line the guy I was chatting with said it was the luck of the draw that I was charged. As I said during my chat, I thought it was underhand, something a low cost airline or door to door salesman would do. I also said it was sharp practice. It made no difference of course. I'm just wondering was anyone else caught out like this ?

You are still entitled a full refund if you renewed in the 45 days prior to the announcement. You'll just lose access to MobileMe. Did they tell you that?

Hi, yeah they did, but I need to hold on to my Email address. It's too important to lose. Could do without the rest though.

We won't know for sure until iCloud officially launches, but there was a report a while ago which suggested that it will possible to resurrect expired MobileMe accounts. I realise, however, that this is probably of no use to you if you are using it as your main email account.

I was charged too, on the 25th of May. In fairness, they have to have some cutoff, and some people are going to fall on the wrong side of it no matter what it is. They chose June 7th. If they had chosen May 28th, you would have got a free year, and I wouldn't have. If they had chosen May 1st, we would have been fine, but plenty others wouldn't.

I was a bit p!ssed off at the time, but it's done now. Looking forward to iCloud. Just hope they don't take too long in getting iTunes Match going over here.

Look at it this way. You get more storage which will be needed than a free account.

Mine is not due till August, so I won't have to pay. :) All of that said, Im going to be holding onto my mobileMe services till the last possible moment, or until Im fully satisfied that iCloud works as advertised.

The launch of mobileMe was an unmitigated disaster. Apparently in an infamous rant Jobs asked one of his VP's what mobileMe was supposed to do, to the reply he spat "so why the f**k does it not do that?" I doubt Apple will misstep so largely - and publicly-, twice.

Welcome to my world :D But I honestly don't care. I got a free month at the other end or something..

Were the entire team who were responsible for MM not encouraged to find other career opportunities ?

Yeah, I've accepted it now, can't do much about it. I still love Apple mind you and will still buy their stuff. ( Guess they know that anyway )

I did think there was going to be Auto refunds as said at WWDC, didn't happen for me though, obviously !

Just the top 3 directors were fired..
I was one of the lucky ones :D Had about 3 months left in my mobileme and now it's extended to July 2012..

And in fairness to Apple..you can get a refund if you renewed with 45 days of the announcement. However you state that you need mobileme for the email so them's the breaks ;)

I've got a HTC Desire, so this won't work for me. Thanks for the link anyway :)
