It is legal to reverse around a corner as demonstrated in the driving test.

What is the situation when reversing around the corner of a junction that has traffic lights?

its irresponsible to reverse around a corner.

in the test its simply to test reversing skills, I'm not sure if its illegal or not but would think that reversing around a corner could be illegal (it it more likely to be the cause of an accident )

Reversing around the corner is usually into an entrance that would be privately owned and not subject to the rules of the road which is surely legal because I've seen large pillars being put up at an estate to put an end to the practice.

At traffic lights it seems like codology but I don't know if its actually illegal or under what law

That would be the behaviour of a complete and utter idiot.

You are allowed to reverse onto a minor road from a major road, not vice versa

Reversing around a corner and a three point turn are the two legal manoeuvres for turning your car around to travel back in the direction you came.

Just as in the test, both must only be undertaken where and when it is safe to do so, on a quiet section of road with good visibility.

In "real" driving, you are more likely to reverse into a lane, entrance etc than a road to turn a car around. It is a safer manoeuvre than a 3-point turn usually.

As stated above, it can only be underteken when and where it is safe to do so. That would rule out junctions with traffic lights, busy roads, etc.

It says "When reversing from a major road onto a minor road". It doesnt say that only reversing from major to minor is allowed.
