Meteor/iPhone DOA woes...

Well I hate to be the first person to have a problem with meteor....the story goes like so...

I ordered a 32gb white iPhone 4 off them last Wednesday, over the phone, as I wouldn't have had a chance to make it to a meteor store, before this week so I said I'd order over the phone to save time and what not.

No problems there, everything went fine, missed the post man this morning and had to go to the post office to collect my package, opened the box and was delighted to see a white iPhone in there. Got home and realized it was actually a 16gb they sent me, instead of complaining I figured I'd just live with the 16gb.

So I opened the box up and tried to activate the phone only for it to be dead on arrival.....it just doesn't turn on, when its connected to a power outlet or to the iMac it'll show the connect to iTunes s screen, but as soon as you remove the USB cable the phone dies.

I've looked it up online and it does appear to happen on the rare occasion, I spoke to a member of the sales team at meteor, regarding them sending me not only the wrong phone, but a broken one, he said I'd have to send the phone back to them and they would then send me out the correct 32gb model. This would take around ten days. Sounds a bit crazy to me.

The guy was obviously finished work @ 7pm so he rushed me off the phone, what I'm asking is, can I ring up tomorrow and demand that they allow me to return the phone to the nearest meteor store and pick up my correct(and hopefully functioning) 32gb phone? Without having to wait nearly ten days?

a guy i work with ordered his iphone from meteor online and he was then told instore that meteor stores, they will not touch a phone that was ordered online,id presume that goes for phones that were ordered on the phone too.
so i would imagine you will have to have that 16gb iphone returned by post and wait for a replacement via post aswell, sucks but thats their policy AFAIK.

If that's so, ill just cancel the order and get one off vodafone or o2.

You buy online you go back to online if you have a problem. Don't expect any hop in a store, you'll lucky if the staff don't throw something at you for buying online in the first place.

Quick resolution to the problem would be to cancel the whole transaction, swift post them back the phone and just go into a store and get one tomorrow.

Can you do a hard reset on it, that might fix it up but there's no point really as the sent you the wrong one, just get it back to them asap.

I really don't want the hassle of having to sign contracts and be held up in my local carphonewarehouse for an hour tomorrow, I'd much rather and easier drop off and pick up.

the phone you bought and was delivered by post will have to be returned by post.i dont think you can drop it off to them now, whatever the address for returning it is probably isnt open to the public.
just take the hour and sign up in a bricks & mortar store.

Should have thought of that first. Your better off dealing with a Meteor store anyway if your going with meteor not carphone.
Try the store, they may be able to do something, one way or another that iphone has to go back to online. The store won't touch it but they may be able to sign you up for a 32GB if you cancel your online transaction.

I know i should have went to a store in the first place, but i had a relatively busy week last week, currently on hold here at the moment, for the last 23 minutes waiting to speak to someone in the sales team about this!

If it ends up that i'll have to post it back and wait for 10 days, i'll just cancel the whole deal and go with vodafone.

Yep, long and short of it is that ill have to post this one back tomorrow, and when they receive it, they'll post out my 32gb, hopefully in a working state.

Never ordering anything online from an irish retailer!

How is it the irish retailers fault?
Im sure it was in the T&C's you probably didnt read about buying online > returning online.

I meant I won't be buying from an irish retailer, online, when I could go 40 miles out of my way to visit one of their stores.

Major pain in the ass that I'll have to wait until the middle of next week to get my product which I ordered last week!!!

I know it's frustrating but that is one of the pitfalls of the convenience of ordering online/telephone. I don't think it will take 10 days anyway, they are just covering their a** in case they run out of stock or some other delay.

I ordered my 32gb black one last Tuesday, was told it would be Friday for delivery and it was at my door at 7.30 AM on Thursday morning. All I can say is that you were unlucky getting a bad one, that happened to me when the iPod Classic first came out, a friend of my wife won one, she didn't want it so I bought it from her. It still have the wrapping on it and when I tried to turn it on no joy, just the apple symbol. As it wasn't purchased in a store I had to call Apple for them to arrange repair, they were very efficient. I called them on Friday, pickup was Monday, sent to the Netherlands Monday evening, arrived at Apple in the Netherlands on Tuesday, was replaced (not repaired) and sent out to be on Tuesday evening and delivered to my door on Wednesday. If Apple can do that then Meteor should get your replacement out to you within a couple of days.

I would recommend that you track the return delivery and once it has been signed for get the name of whoever received it and get on to sales immediately for them to follow up and issue the replacement.

Well the jiffy bag they were supposed to send on Tuesday still didn't arrive today, so I had to get back on to customer care, eventually a supervisor arranged for me to drop the DOA 16gb to my local(40 miles away) meteor store, and I can pick up my correct 32gb there!

Here's hoping they have stock tomorrow when I get down there, if they don't I think ill just give up!

Quick and painless in fairness the other day!

The supervisor arranged for the drop off and pick up in the Waterford Meteor store, and no problems at all picking up the new phone.

Now rocking a fully functional 32gb white iPhone 4! :)
