I'm contemplating doing a transmission oil change and am wondering where would be the cheapest place to get this oil?

It's expensive at my nearest motor factors and postage costs prohibit buying it off Ebay.

Some of the larger shell garages might have it, but I wouldn't think it would be much cheaper. Make sure you get the right spec for your box as I think some are slightly different due to different bearing materials

any motor factor will have it. and its not to pricey.
just make sure you open the filler plug before you open the drain plug. because if the filler plug is siezed and you let the oil out then your in trouble.
make sure you have the car level to get the correct oil level.

I got a 5 litre bottle in my local motor factors for around €40. Makes a big difference to gear change etc, and good advice above re making sure you can open the filler plug first!

If sl4 is required make sure you get that and not sl5. Alot of problems with various cars using sl5 when sl4 is needed.

Are you around Cork Volvoman? I buy a lot of Castrol Dyna drive 80w/90 in bulk. I could give you a gallon of it for nothing if you wanted.

Dont spill it on your clothes or hands either. Its fairly strong stuff my right hand is destroyed in warts after it spilt on me. Mind you it was boiling hot too..:o

Second that. It smells absolutely rancid. Really turns the stomach.

I'm not I'm afraid, Corkie. Thanks for the very generous offer though.

I think what I'll do is just bite the bullet and pick up two litres of the stuff at the motor factors one of the days next week. I'll need to gain a little confidence, as the most I've ever done with a car mechnaically is an oil and filter change. The Toyota Owners Club were very helpful however and have provided me with a step-by-step guide.
