Too old for a sun holiday?

Long story short, I'm 34 and I've never been on a sun holiday. You know the type, off to somewhere like Ayia Napa, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria etc with the lads drinking, clubbing and carrying on.

It's something I've kind of wanted to do but never had the opportunity. Just wondering if I went this year or next year when I'm 35 would I stick out like a sore thumb? That is assuming I could get some people to go with. Most of my mates are settled now!

Not at all IMHO, you've been watching too much 'Ibiza Uncovered' dude :D

The skanger spots will inevitably have lout-ish carry on but indulging in that behaviour is purely a matter of personal choice. Plenty of other stuff going on, you'll do doubt see lots of families with kids, do you really think this would be the case if they were destinations strictly reserved drunk teenagers?

I've been to both Lanzarote and Ayia Napa, both fabulous islands once you can break away from the tacky Irish bars etc.

    Go for it, I say.

34 too old  well if you think it is go visit any of the canary islands between october and march, its full of old people that time of year. the median age visiting those type of resorts is between 16-39 this time of year; to be honest i am not a huge fan of the "sun holiday" nightlife model, the reps pulling you into bars/clubs gets annoying well before the end of the first night

cyprus is a nice island and ayia napa is only a tiny village on the southeast coast well away from the big cities, somewhere like larnaca has decent nightlife and not the tacky "linekers, mckerry irish bar etc"

even if you don't go on a booze binge places like tenerife and lanzarote especially are so unique landscape wise they are well worth the trip, Timanfaya national park is like landing on the moon, only an active volcanic moon where you can roast chicken over open vents

34 isn't old. There are plenty of people in their 30/40's in those resorts.

You do know that Ibiza was populated by hippies in the 1970's years before the drinking/clubbing scene took hold in San Antonio?

Plenty of youngsters around but if you get pissed off with them take a trip outside San Antonio and you'll see a completely different type of foreigner over there.
Many of the hippies moved out of San Antonio in the early 1980's to the other parts of the island.

No, not at all. Just do a wee bit of research prior to going and avoid the 18 to whatever spots. If you take a look at tour operators websites they will give an overview on the resorts, which will give you an idea.
Alternatively go before or after school and college hol's - end of May or Sept, would avoid Oct-April though- thats blue rinse brigade time.

Seriously, when you go on a sun holiday and have a look around you, you'll feel far from old.

Good to know I'm not too old.

To be honest the whole 18-30 scene does kind of appeal to me a bit. Although I was sounding out one of my friends about it today who is married and he said "I don't think I will be allowed to go". The wonders of being married. Kind of reminds me of what you'd have to tell your friends when you parents wouldn't let you go out when you were a child.

Are there any kind of singles holidays to these places?

I know exactly what ya mean. Marriage is the death knell for lads holidays! It would take a very secure woman to leave her husband off on a bender with his friends to Ayia Napa! I know my mates days of going with me are well over!

Aye tis a bit annoying, especially as I'm sure if the situation was reversed the guy would have to keep his mouth shut and say nothing.
