Hello, in the last month i've been motovated to get further educated and i am keen to do the accounting technician course with Fás. i am looking into doing this course in Tralee. i'm waiting for interview to see can i get onto this course. My question is; is it worth doing? It is accredited to ATI. I see that tralee Community college also run the course but it's year two only? Should i hold out and apply through the CAO to do business/accounting through IT Tralee in Sept 2012? i left it too late to apply for this year & i don't have the funds.

I am a lone parent to a six year old and i work full time but i am still just making ends meet, so naturally having financial assistance towards the course to upskill is a bonus!

Also its been 10 Years since i studied in college! I've read through a few of the threads , and i'm probably answering this one for myself, but i read a post that said the Accounting tecnician course is a good foundation.

Id appreciate your views & information
    Thanks:)

I'm in the same boat, waiting to see can I get a place in Sept in Dublin. I think it would be a great course and plan to do it part time if I don't get it through fas. Will watch this thread with interest

I started off with IATI, Its a good course and definitely gives relevant skills. Also a big plus is the exemptions you can get from the accounting bodies if you want to continue your education.

Yes its a very good course and it covers lots including taxation and law so you'll learn loads from it. Definitely do the two full years and it'll really help with getting a better salary and better accounts positions.

I'd highly recommend this course Aurellia and good for you for bettering yourself. Its always very beneficial to do some solid exams and the ATI is a good qualification to have.

    Good luck :)

Generally it's like a standard interview. They will ask how you heard about the course and why you want to take this course of study. You will have to detail any relevant life experience from work or college. They might ask a few questions about accounting terminology to see how much knowledge you already have on the subject. Approx 30 mins.

congrats on getting into the course. I have my interview next week and am so nervous, being waiting so long now I'm afraid I'll make a mess of it. Planning to spend next week going over cv, if anybody has any tips for the interview I'd be very grateful.

One thing is to show them that you'd be comfortable with theory and essay writing as that comprises over half the course in the first year - Business Management and Law/Ethics as well as components of Financial Accounting and Taxation.
