Let's face it, the unions have more in the way of representing a political block in this country then they do as a Representative of working people and their rights. Labour are nothing more then their political wing, and with it all a gale of hot air thats done more for global warming then protecting the rights of the disadvantaged.

How's about something a little more pragmatic that will give us the means to dump the chains of outdated left/right politics?

How's about aligning the interests of both business and stakeholders such that instead of picking at each other like petty children, they instead co-operate towards common success?

How's about moving past the old and tried Irish model of Gouger and Begrudger?

Have a read, see what you think......
Co-determination is a practice whereby the employees have a role in management of a company. The word is a literal translation from the German word Mitbestimmung. Co-determination rights are different in different legal environments. In some countries, like the USA, the workers have virtually no role in management of companies, and in some, like Germany, their role is more important. The first serious co-determination laws began in Germany. At first there was only worker participation in management in the coal and steel industries. But in 1974, a general law was passed mandating that worker representatives hold seats on the boards of all companies employing over 500 people.
    .......

Furthermore, industrial relations are more harmonious with low levels of strike actions, while better pay and conditions are secured for employees.

We badly need to dump the failed models of the past in this country, and there has never been a better time to look around and see the models of success. Do we dare try for something better?

The German model is an extremely progressive and positive one.

It relies on all parties at the table being sensible, level headed and long term thinkers. Unions. Workers. Employers. Government.

Good luck with that in Ireland.

Good luck with that in Ireland.

I'll probably bring my regret on that one to the grave, but in the meanwhile may as well try.

    We can do better?!?
