Cassette Wobble?

My wheel went out of shape last week, took it to my LBS and as they were tightening the spokes to true the wheel they round one of them had snapped, that being the reason for the buckle.

The fella removed the Cassette, removed and replaced the broken spoke and then replaced the Cassette. Problem solved.

Anyways tonight I was giving the bike a bit of TLC after the WW200, degreasing and relubing the chain and adjusting the rear derailleur. Whilst doing this I noticed that my cassette wobbles when freewheeling.

Is it caused by the cassette perhaps being replaced incorrectly? Is this normal? Is this an issue?

If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most grateful.

    Thanks,

    Inq

It's not normal, it's probably missing a spacer behind the cassette.

Aye he forgot to put the inner spacer and pie plate on the first time he replaced the cassette, didn't inspire me with confidence.....

Its a Shimano 105 Cassette, as far as I can remember when he replaced it there is the pie plate, then one spacer between that and the first cog, one each between the remaining cogs until the last few cogs are self spaced, would that be about right?

Its normal, I wouldnt worry about it. Freewheels do it too. The 105 cassette has a bunch of spacers on the last few gears, they are not pinned together.

If he left a spacer out I doubt youd have gotten very far on the W200

I popped a spoke a while back and after it was replaced and the wheel trued in the bike shop I noticed a wobble on the cassette.
The bike shop told me that wobble is normal for anything but top of the range bikes.
Ok, I didn't spend 000's on the bike but for around €850 (Lapierre Shaper with Tiagra) I'd expect everything to run true.
Am I right in thinking this?

I've an old Shimano 600 hub that it's quite noticeable when freewheeling. So even on relevantly high end hubs, its there.

If you can move the actual cassette, as in if there is play in the sprockets when you try to move them with your hand then something is up but if its just the float of the cassette when freewheeling where it kind of moves around in a floaty manner then thats normal.
