It won't be dealt with on the day. It's a serious charge.

If you're not working you might get get legal aid, otherwise, if you're fighting the case, it could be anything over €1,000 and most likely around €2,000 if you;re engaging counsel also.

First I'd ring up the legal aid board and find out if you might be eligible for legal aid. If not, ring up a few of the larger criminal practises in your area and ask for a quote.

Are you the accused or a witness?

You were the party whose house was burgled?

Or you have been charged with burglary?

presume you mean someone is charged with burgling your house and the case is up for hearing.

you are not and cannot be liable for any costs at all if so.

you might get the benefit of an order that your expenses of attending as a witness be paid by the accused if convicted - 99% of the time they are however never paid.

And someone has admitted doing it. If he/she was charged by the gardai and is being prosecuted, then you won't need to engage a solicitor.

If you are trying to sue someone who privately admitted burgling your house through the civil courts, that's a different matter.

so would the costs be covered by the accused...?
seems they have admitted to the guards that thay done it..is that not basically saying they are liable??

    I should have been clearer.

You don't need to have a solicitor nor are you entitled to engage one to represent you. There is no question of legal costs being incurred by you.

Witness expenses as per my previous post.

If the person in question pleads guilty you won't have to give evidence at all.

That makes things very different. Obviously ignore my post as it was presuming that you were the accused...
