Are these kind of thoughts normal?

    Hi,
I have started thinking about my thoughts a lot more recently as I have problems in different areas which I am working with people on. I have been having a particulary bad today and yesterday and thought I might put them up here to see if everybody else has these.

For example today when I was taking a medication I have I brought it up to the kitchen to take it and then left it down beside the sink because I wanted to go back on this laptop rather than bring it to my room. A voice inside my head said "Your only leaving it there for attention when someone comes into the kitchen". I have these an awful lot but it's like it's me saying it - it's my own voice but it can be a running commentary on what I'm doing and usually always negative or to make me feel bad in some way. I think it's correct in what it says even though it's negative and see it as an opportunity to improve myself.

Are these just the kind of thoughts maybe someone with low self esteem at times has?

Hi OP, sorry to hear this is getting you down. I wonder if this is something you should talk to your GP about rather than us on here. Your GP would know what falls under "normal" and what questions to ask to find this out.

For me, I can "hear" my thoughts in my head but it wouldn't be an audible voice as such. I've never experienced a running commentary. Do you mean something like: "...and now I'm putting my cereal in the bowl and now I'm picking up the spoon...etc"?

    Best of luck

I think voices in your head is something a doctor should be advising you on - we have no way of knowing whether these are normal or not and we cannot offer you medical advice.

    Best of luck
