Hi,

I'm new to Ireland and now have to decide if to prolong the contract. In relation to that, I would like to know something more about private health care insurance. (I know there are comparison websites etc. saying to what I'm entitled then in a private or a public hospital and for what money, but the entitlement as such does not imply any quality guarantee yet.)

What I'm looking for now - is the private care better (and how much or in which aspects) compared to public care? I heard some horrendeous stories about public care so would like to know if (and what) there is any difference when using private care.

My priority is quality, qualified, professional care (= no "butchery", precise diagnosis etc.), sensitive approach, fast procedures. I don't care that much if there is some phone helpline or if I would have a private, semi-private or whatever hospital room.
(NB I'm in Cork so any specific insights on private health care providers in there are appreciated.)

In short, do you get better value for the extra money? If I ever needed a top-level care comparable to e.g. a German hospital, is there an option to get it in Ireland?
