Just been told that my MRI show an acute tear of my ACL, lateral meniscus damage and osteochondral damage to the tib/fem condyles - Surgery advised.

But i feel fine. Very, Very little pain. I can & have ran/sprinted. Neg lachmans, neg ant drawer sign.

The radiologist who reviewed it lectures us, and he is very good.
Is there any point in getting a second opinion?

Whats the rehab like from ACL?
I have to be on my feet for Aug 2nd for work. Havent even gotten an appointment with an orthopod yet :(
    Thanks

    Get a second opinion
I have a tear in My ACL but I was specifically told that I had no damage to my meniscii etc .
I was also over 30 when it ocurred and not doing any cutting : running so for me it was worth it to try and rehab it conservatively . My physio at the time did tell me however that I was probably only postponing a Cruciate repair and that it may go fully at any time . Fingers crossed its been fine so far

    Hi Dr Nic,
My son had an ACL rebuild on his right knee due to rugby injury, when he done the injury we went to our local hospital who x-rayed it and told us it was just an soft tissue damage and he would be alright after a couple of weeks . When he went back playing he did one turn and collapsed in agony , after seeing a specialist he told us that if we had come to him first it wouldn't have been as bad. So i would recommend getting a second opinion, like you said my son had no pain until he tried to swerve and turn.
After the operation he was on crutches for about a month then started light exercises to strenghten the knee ,but it was about 6 to 8 months before he could try proper training . Hope this helps good luck .

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

I second the votes for a second opinion!

do you play sport? If its not a full tear and its not affecting your daily living then I dont see the urgent need to get the reconstruction surgery.

Im not going to get into it here for obvious reasons (cant give medical advice) but if the MRI is showing that much damage you will need the op

I'm currently on a waiting list to get surgery on a torn acl. Feel fine no pain can run walk jog as normal but if I play football and turn sharply I cam get a throbbing pain. I wouldn't see the point in a second opinion your just wasting time IMO and waiting lists ( even private are two months plus)

oh the reason you arent feeling pain is because there are no pain receptors in the ACL itself. other syptoms would be more common such as the knee "giving way" etc

I've decided to go for surgery...
