    Guys,

I'm in the process of loosing myself some weight(34LBS loast so far, prob 20-28more to go)

I'm drinking roughly between 2.5Ltrs and 4Ltrs of water daily.

as the title says, is it possible to over-do it on the water front?

Yes it certainly is possible to kill yourself by drinking too much water. It has been the reason for death in cases originally attributed to MDMA poisoning.

wasn't considering anything as drastic as ^^^

I was more thinking in the lines of, is it counter intuitive for weight-loss, is there a point where the benefits of drinking water are no longer there as too much is drank ....

Also depends on how active you are [if you sweat or use that water, or if you are sitting on your bum in front of computer/tv all day!]

A good figure I have seen used a lot is that an active person needs to drink 30ml of water per KG of body weight [eg : depending on your size, you need more or less!]

As chalkitdown said, drinking too much water can do far worse than affect your weight loss. Sometimes inexperienced people going on hikes etc. concentrate so much on keeping hydrated that they overdo it and end up in hospital.

2.5L is a healthy amount, and if you're exercising a lot you can afford to drink more than that. What you have to watch is your salt/electrolyte intake. If you're going to drink loads of water, you'll need to replenish your electrolytes. AFAIK sports drinks are the easiest way to do this, but if your weight loss won't allow that, I'm sure you can find a home made substitute on the internet. Of course, the easiest thing to do is keep your water intake at 2-3L a day and eat healthy.

The amount of water you're drinking wouldn't harm your weight loss. 2L a day is good for weight loss and as said before if you're exercising a lot then a little more than 2L is good. However with regards to the electrolytes mentioned above, if you drink too much water you may get more of an appetite as your body will want salt. Personally I think dieting should never mean you have to go hungry.

It's also worth noting that you shouldn't drink all your water at one time. If you drink it slowly enough over the course of a day, you could probably drink twice as much water as you're drinking easily.
