Seems some SDCC head has put forward a motion to name one of the stands in Tallaght after Robbie Keane.

I think this is a great idea and cat wait for the opening ceremony when Robbie tells us Rovers are his boyhood club :pac:

    Not just that.

There is a proposal for monogrammed barstools in the Members Suite with the names of other Ireland heroes too.

wont go down well with rovers fans although rovers dont own the stadium, would rather see a stand in the aviva named after him and one after brian o'driscoll.

In my opinion there if a stand is going to be named after an irish player, there should be a long list.

And for me Robbie Keane doesnt rank that high in the list : /

Well the SDCC can call it the Robbie Keane stand all they like Rovers fans will never call it that. It's their stadium and they can do what they like with it and why not call it after Robbie. Leading goal scorer grew up a few hundred yards from there.

Obviously I'm assuming he has supported Rovers all his life too. They are after all his boyhood club.

They should at least wait until he retires, which is a good few years off yet. Definitely a bit premature.

Stands should only be named after dead people.

Great idea....all the fans in the stand should have to partake in Robbie's most famous celebration....putting their hands in the air and spinning around in a circle when a decision goes against the team.

Should name it after Glen Crowe ;)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Should name it after Glen Crowe ;)

You have somehow come up with probably the only less suitable name, SN

One counsellor proposed talking about the idea and there's been very little support for it. Anyway, giving the time he spends there, naming the Playhouse nightclub after him would be more apt.

I hope that is because you think it shouldn't go to a current player. If not, I'm not sure what our third highest caps holder and greatest ever goalscorer has to do to deserve being high on that list.

Just to add, he's our only ever player to score more than once in a World Cup as well.

When they ship in the materials they shall be known as The John Giles Piles.

Maybe take the Robbie hate/love-in to an Ireland thread?

Guy has never played in or supported Rovers (or anybody in the domestic league AFAIK) but the SDCC can do what they want with their stadium.

    Fin.

Yes I feel that thsoe awards should go to retired veterans.

And while I appreciate his qualities and acheivements, I just have a reluctance around him.

As said above I'll have appreciation for him when hes retired, not now, where he is just walzing aimlessly around club to club, pretty sad imo considering the talent that was squandered imo.

At club level btw, I've not much interest in national games, club level hes just being a big dissapointment and waste of genuine talent imo
