"ugly" people virus invades beautiful people site

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_technews/20110620/tc_yblog_technews/computer-virus-lets-30000-ugly-people-join-exclusive-dating-site

A dating website that prides itself on matching only the best-looking individuals has deleted the accounts of more than 30,000 users after a computer virus accidentally allowed them to skip the site's screening process. BeautifulPeople employes a strict community voting system that only grants accounts to good-looking applicants, but the aptly-named "Shrek" virus changed that, letting new users skip the screening protocols and begin interacting with the "beautiful" people.
Dating sites like eHarmony and Match have gained popularity in recent years among people who simply don't have the time, and perhaps patience, to meet a potential mate by more traditional means. Virtual matchmaker BeautifulPeople takes this concept a step further, by screening applicants based on looks, allowing only the most perfectly sculpted specimens to join its ranks. Members who pass the test pay $25 per month to be matched with other hotties.

Once the virus was discovered, the site's managing director Greg Hodge decided that the only way to correct the problem was to boot the 30,000 less-desirable users from the site, stating, "We have to stick to our founding principles of only accepting beautiful people — that's what our members have paid for. We can't just sweep 30,000 ugly people under the carpet."

lmao can't imagine the surpise some members got..

That's a truly horrendous premise for a site but anyway.

I was wondering why that happened

    Cheers OP

Was there any need to make everything but 11/2 sentences bold? Usually the bold bits are the most interesting parts but for some reason I was drawn towards the unbolded bit more, in this case

They copied the episode of South Park where Cartman has the theme park. "You can't come here" marketing.

    lol

I'm half thinking they make this stuff up for publicity and for the one liners, lasst time they said
"Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded."

    :p

I can understand the motivation behind an attack on that website tbh.

How would one feel if someone came along who thought they were the authority on what is beautiful and told you you're ugly and to get the fcuk out

    I'm pretty ugly ... so I wouldn't get into beautifulpeople.com - probably.
But .... so what? Why can't they decide who they want to associate with??

    Typical PC c r a p!!

    Let's see -

If you own a superyacht - should you be obliged to mix in the local tallafornia nightclub?
If you live in Kerry .... should you be obliged to buy a Donegal Jersey - and support Mayo?
If you're in the Irish Countrywomans Association - should you be obliged to let men in as full members?
If you had herpes simplex - should you be obliged to only socialise (not kiss!) with others that don't have it?

Let the beautiful people associate with whom they think are beautiful. Surely they have a right to their views? Aren't they even entitled to their views of what is beauty!!??
