Surprised these guys hang out given some of Lees comments recently.
Particularly when Rory seems quite sensitive about "derogotary" comments on his game.

Ya, and the same thing for Eastwood & McIlroy;)

"Ive played with Rory and he does snap hook under pressure"

"Rorys a long way ahead and he didnt handle it too well at Masters"

"I bullied Rory out of it in Dubai"

I think durka was looking for some references...
It might surprise you to know that putting something in inverted commas does not make it "true"...

    These aren't quotes are they?

I didn't realise that Lee Westwood and Dermot McElroy even knew each other! Learn something new every day ;)

I've seen all of those quotes and they are true, but a couple of points that make them pretty irrelevant:

    1. McIlroy and Westwood and Ryder Cup teammates, stablemates and good friends which means Westwood would have more leeway than most to make comments on Rory's game.

    2. Everything he said in those quotes is perfectly true and has been mentioned in one way or another by McIlroy himself. If anything its stark comments by his peers such as this that would have driven him to make the required changes to his game which led to his win this week.

You're points above are true and well made, however I think the comments were a little crass, no need to be saying that sort of stuff to reporters. I didn't hear Nicklaus come out with anything like that!! I admire Westwood for coming back from the doldrums like he did but he has gone down in my estimation...not that he gives a f**k!!;)

In fairness I kind of go along with you here. I found Lee was holding back a bit in interviews, didnt want to give Rory too much credit...he was saying "I've been hitting it brilliantly for 3 days...etc", whereas he was way off McIlroys standard really.

I think it's because Westwood is ahead of him in the rankings and sees himself as the better golfer maybe? I think there is jealously there too.

Everything Westwood said was very true and rory has been honest and accepted this in all his intreviews and dealt with his weaknesses in his game. rory has achieved at 22 what Westwood hasnt so maybe he should accept and deal with all thr weaknesses in his own game....

Just my observation, but watching Westwood coming off the 18th on Saturday, and from what I can remember of his interview after, he seemed to be putting out the impression that he was in with a great chance, moreso because there was a good chance Rory might crack rather than him playing exceptional golf on Sunday to catch him... He didn't come and say it, but it's just what I picked up from it anyway, and maybe way off the ball.

Was also very surprised when Chubby was interviewed before the final round. Asked of the chances of both his players. He said something along the lines that Lee would shoot a 66 to finish 2nd, 3 shots behind Rory. Thought that was a bit out of order really, not very respectful to Rory

I thought the exact same. He went down in my estimation big time after all that.

    Chubby isn't anybody's coach

Westwood. I know there is a need to remain positive and upbeat but he struck me as bordering on arrogant - I like him usually but I took a certain satisfaction in seeing him trudge off despondent as Rory slammed the door shut behind him.

Interesting.Just wonderin what people thought. I certainly thought Westwood was tryin bit o mind games on Saturday and his comments before lacked professional courtesy.
just seemed strange then that the lads dined together on Saturday night.
Didnt seem to bother Rory so spose academic now.
Would love to see McIlroy throw in a few digs of his own the next time himself and Lee competin for a title
"well Lees had chances before and hasnt got the job done" etc

ps i know putting something in quot. marks doesnt make it "true"(for that genius from earlier)

In all honesty I wouldn't imagine Rory cares tok much as he eats coco-pops out of his new cup!

If the worlds number 1 golfer is reduced to silly mind games it shows Rory is right up there with the big lads!

As far as I can see their mates so I'm sure they were laughing and slagging about it on Saturday night before the final round. Nothing to see here I reckon.

The two of them are clearly mates, and taking the piss is what Westwood is doing. They tweet to each other all the time with worse..
