I want to go out tonight but I don't want to get sloshed. Throughout my pub/club going adult life I have found it impossible to out for a good night without getting wasted. The exceptions are if I'm with a girl or if I'm really bored.

How do people go out and not get carried away with the night?

Stick a 50, 20, whatever in your pocket and leave your wallet at home. Job done.

Drink non alcoholic beer. Or if you wanna get a bit tipsy just have a non alcoholic one ever second round. Or just dont bring enough money to get hammered. Cant get hammered if ya cant afford it.

You're probably wolfing pints and shots into you are ya? Just slow down a bit. I used to be the same but kinda grew out of it in my mid twenties id say.

Wait wait wait, you can have a good night out without getting wasted? Good luck sir.

Ah, peer pressure! Avoid the round system at all times when trying not to get sloshed. It may look like your cheap but prevent those accusations by buying a round one of the nights while everyone is sober-ish and you'll appear like some sort of beer superhero!

Beer pressure eh!? Geddit? It's like peer press... oh never mind.

Maybe drink bottles instead of pints, much harder to over do it then, well for me it is anyway. No shots or silly drinks and slow down towards the end of the night instead of plying yourself with drink in order to go home and sleep it off.

I don't drink shots and I drink at a steady enough pace (Guinness) at the beginning of the night. I just find as the night goes on and gets better and better I want more and more.

Some people just can't stop at one drink.
For these people I think it's a case of abstinance.

In all seriousness either your steady pace is either too fast or you're going out too early. Do you keep drinking away as usual in nightclubs aswell?

Drink your first pint very slowly.Taste it and enjoy it and always keep it in your mind that its not a race. You don't have to keep up with anybody. You can have a very good night with very little alcohol and not regret it the next day.

I meet up with 4-5 friends every saturday,in the local pub. They get in a round...........................I do'nt. I stay out of it and drink at my own pace.Done that for many a year, and have the teeshirt.

Around 1.30 ,with 2-3 pints each in front of them they start passsing them around trying to get rid of them.
    I go home merry,they crawl home pissed.:D

Ps: a bloke I work with used to have the same problem ,so lately during his round he has a shandy.

I always plan to pace myself and sometimes I do but if the craic is good I start lashing them back unknown to myself and end up getting locked

You can't put a tight limit on the amount of money you bring out. What if you end up with no money in town... or end up at a party in the middle of nowhere.

I don't go in for rounds unless I'm with just one mate. I hate it.

I don't go out early. Normally about 10.30, but I do end up crawling home at 4 or 5 in the morning (unless I fall into the canal).

And finally, I haven't learned how to use multiple quotes in replying to a thread, so if you could choose whichever answer above best suits your advice/query.

    Thank you.

Seriously though OP, just don't bring enough cash for a piss up and you'll be grand. Don't bring an ATM card either, bring enough to have a reasonable number of drinks and get home.

I was out tonight and after a long weekend of drinking decided not to drink and my jaws are sore from laughing so much. Funny funny nite.

If you consented to gobbing both your partner and his mates' penises i dont see why you should later complain your jaw was sore
