I just completed this course three weeks ago and would highly recommend it. I entered the course in year two also. It is a bit tough entering year two but with a reasonable amount of work it is manageable.

When you begin in September you will have to chose your major. I picked Energy opposed to Control. Energy is a much tougher and has a greater workload. In my opinion there are equal opportunities from both. There is one particular poor lecturer in Energy. Although the lecturers in general are very good and willing to help any student that is struggling.

Most of my class are going on to do the level 8 course in DIT however some have got jobs. There are opportunities but they generally involve travelling within Europe. Most people that wanted a job seemed to get one.

There is a high emphasis on Maths within the course. Generally about 27 hours per week in college, study in the second half of the semester will take a minimum 10 hours per week (for me anyway).

If you have any more questions I will be happy to answer them.

Thanks for that. Really appreciate it.
How did you find the bridging modules?
Im not bad at maths but heard it is quiet difficult.

Passed through the apprenticeship with flying colours, credits in all exams (I know this is a different kettle of fish tho) so hopefully if I keep the head down il get trough the two years without too many problems.

Will decide then if il do level 8 or get out into the big bad world. :D

Hi I've applied for this course and DT010 and engineering systems maintenance I can't remember the code. It's in Bolton street though.

@tibulus hi I wouldn't have a clue what the difference is between the 2 majors but I was already thinking of goin with the energy systems.

What kind of job could I get from either one?

I've a load of questions but can't think if them now!! :)

    Cheers!!

Have you applied through cao into first year or advanced entry into second year?

If your through cao ya don't have to worry about choosing a major until you reach year two, by then you will have plenty of info on each major.

If you applied through advance entry I'm afraid you should have bein already offered for dt009 as the bridging modules are starting on Tuesday.

You should have bein offered the bridging modules by now mate. They start Tuesday.

    One week of computer applications
    One week of autocad
    One week of maths
    One week of electrical science

I'm a qualified sparks and once I pass these I can go into year two in September.

From my own experience I would not feel that Energy Systems has a greater workload or is any tougher. You may disagree, but by the end of the course I think you will see that it all evens out. I completed DT009 a few years ago.

I found DT009 to be an excellent course. Apparently it is the longest running engineering course in Ireland.

Nah I'm doing it a slightly different way, our bridging modules were worked around our phase 4 but It's basically the same thing, I've two weeks left to do in them and then all going we'll starting in September aswell.
