I had worked for a VERY large, VERY well known semi-state company on contract for a year. I've since finished working for them over one year ago.

I am owed €250 in expenses which I submitted for approval just before I left, just over a year ago... One year later and constant phone calls I am told these expenses have finally been sent for final approval, however because of major cutbacks I am now told my claim my not be approved because it was submitted without receipts (Receipts were lost by internal mail)

Can anyone help and inform me on employment law relating to expenses?

I don't believe there are any laws other than taxing them. Other than that is would depend what's in any contract or written agreement between two parties

Piece of advice. When submitting expenses, submit photocopies of the receipts and keep the originals. If they insist on originals, keep copies for yourself. If they "lose" originals, make copies of copies and give them the copies :)

If they were paid by card, you could get copies of your statements to show the expenditure? That may work in some cases. Also for some expenses (such as hotel bills) you will be able to get a copy invoice/receipt from the supplier.

I'm in a similar boat meself. Employer (now ex-employer) owes me over €1300. Had NERA (National Employment Rights Authority) look into it, but Rights Commissioner apparently doesn't deal with this.
Again, I submitted actual receipts, didn't have facility to copy them where I was. Now the company is engaged in outright slander, making all sorts of allegations to get out of paying.

May have to take legal action.

Anyone else been down this road and come out on top? I don't want to spend all I get back in court costs... :(

Bold sentence says it all really.

It's called a "life lesson". well worth €250.
