It seems that many buyers of these so called camera connection kits are disappointed as they don't all seem to work. Apparently some cameras work, others don't.

I am in the market for one and intended to put photos and video from a Fujifilm digital camera and Kodak Video camera onto the iPad.

Can anyone who knows anything about them let me know if I shouldn't bother?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I picked up one when I got my iPad2 a few months ago, since then I haven't travelled much so haven't had much need for it, but Have messed around with it a bit.

The SD card reader worked perfectly on my SD cards from various different sources. However the USB adapter didn't work with a small compact Olympus I have, however did work fine on my SLR. I think this was because the Olympus charges via USB and the iPad couldn't provide enough power to charge and access.

I had a few issues from the short bit that I used the adapters:
    1. Importing photos puts them into a folder called "imported" (or something like that). There does not seem to be an easy way to rename the folders or split them. (if anyone knows an app which can do that let me know!)
    2. After copying photos to my iPad, I don't think its as straight forward to copy them to laptop (In all honesty i've barely looked into this!). But you can sync all your photos, but for me I don't want to as would use too much space on my iPad, but I don't think you can sync only new albums from ipad to laptop (again I could be wrong!).

The USB connector can also be used to connect a USB keyboard. And once if you jailbreak your iPad, you can use the USB port to connect an external hard-disk (or so I've heard!).

I got it recently when on holiday and am very pleased with it. Not sure about compatiblity issues, it worked with my bog standard memory card with no problems.

To add to the points Fergus made above:

    - currently yes photos are copied to a folder named 'imported' on the iPad and cannot be moved to another location from within the iPad. This is to be changed with iOS 5 which will allow photos to be moved to other folders and also the ability to create new folders. This should solve this problem.

    - photos can be easily copied off the iPad. Connect it by USB to your computer and go to my computer. The iPad will be displayed as a camera device, and from there photos can be dragged and dropped to your pc.

I only bought the sd reader when in Paris because my digital camera was running out of space. It was almost the same price as a new memory card. What I will say is viewing photos on the iPad is amazing, it's cool being quickly being able to take a look at your photos on a large screen when your on holiday! (that's if you bring the iPad! :) )
