    Folks,

Just wondering when playing a casual round of golf on your own what time (on weekdays or weekends) would you suggest would be the best time to book for to avoid the bottleneck of groups of 3 or 4 golfers in front of you.

For me 07:00. Grass a little bit wet under foot sun just starting to peek out. Nobody on the course and you get to see the shots better. For me anyway.

Or about 3 and a half hours before dusk..........many people want to get 18 holes in and will allow at least 4 hours. So you can have a relaxed round by yourself late on.

I second that...love playing first thing in the morn with a glistening dew on fairways and greens, no pressure to play fast or not slowed down by anyone ahead

I love this too, except the next people out can see exactly where I'm hitting my ball into the trees as they follow my tracks back and forth in the dew!! :p

Bit early for me especially if you plan on hitting a few balls before and spend a few mins in the putting area.

I prefer 10:30, time for some breakfast also

Unless you're first out in my club you'll have a 4 ball in front and behind, we have a serious dawn brigade

8am/early morning is always the best time to play golf.
I'm I'm playing a medal for example this is the best time to score.
The greens are more receptive. Later in teh day they become scuffed. The hole becomes dented and the greens harden up as the watering process will have stopped early that day and the heat will dry them out.
More important though is the wind. It's less windy early and late.
As other said it's also more free flowing earlier in the morning which makes for a better round. a 6 hour round is just no fun and you tire quick.

    Yours etc,
    GSH.

Did you just copy and paste the blurb from some Algarve golf course website? No problem with the natural watering process down our way, it's pretty much 24/7:D.
Love getting out early and being one of the first people on the course when it seems like you have the place to yourself. Played a 2 ball in 2 hours 30 mins starting at 7:15am a few weeks back, wouldn't get that at any other time of the day.

I play on the coast and it's less windy first thing and later on in the evening.
Also, the greens are at their most receptive early on. During the day the water will drain out of them and the wind will even dry them out. It's not just about countries with hot weather.
If you think that the greens are the same here morning and night then fair enough. You'ld be wrong through.

Its first thing in the morning for me. I love being on the first tee by 07.30 on a Sunday morning. You can scoot around as fast as your group allows and still be home for lunch!!

I do enjoy the Sunday evening games too mind you, but they're more for fun.

Here's an article from the New York Times (April 2011), suggesting that playing first thing is NOT the best time to play golf. Like many on here I prefer an early tee time for lots of reasons, but it usually takes me a few holes to loosen up, by which time any potential for a good score has long gone!

I think the 2nd or 3rd group out has a big advantage on the greens as they can see the roll of the ball in the dew !

I've done this a few times. Very handy to see where the ball is going.

My club is out the country and sometimes I go early in the morning. This means I can get in by 1 for a bite to eat and then hit the practice range for a few shots or even go out for another round. I may as well make the most of it while I'm out there

I like to play at 7.30 (am or pm). I find it's hard to get decent spin control on uncut greens. The ball tends to skid a bit on dew-soaked greens.

Find out what time your GKs do the greens at and slot in behind him (her?).

I reckon all the 18 handicap wannabe tour pors should be let out of the traps at the end of the day. Then they can have the 95 shots and 400 practice swings without annoying anyone else.

I like to play in the evenings when the wind isnt as strong and its cooled down a bit.
I really struggle in the heat from 12pm-4pm as my hands get very sweaty in humid conditions.
Its also very tiring in the heat.
