Is it possible to plant bamboo plants under a fir tree? They would be in the shade. At present we can see our neighbors through the trees so would like to cover this and make garden more private.

    Thanks.

Generally its hard to get anything to grow under a conifer. If there is grass growing happily it might be worth a try.

I agree with Looksee, underneath a conifer is a very tough environment for most plants - they have to contend with the constant fall of needles and it would be a struggle for any plant to find water and nutrients, due to competition with the conifer's root system and the rain shadow from its canopy.
In effect, the environment is a dark desert!
There is one family of bamboo which is shade tolerant - Fargesia. To give it any chance, you would need to plant it in a raised bed. And you would need to keep it watered.
