Hi there,my dad passed had cancer and passed away about 2 months. He had to quit work around Feb and claimed illness benefit.Close to the end he was in hospital more than outside it. He didnt collect is weekly amounts as a result. The Undertaker told me i could claim 6 week of illness benefit after my dad had passed. This got me thinking that i may be able to claim his uncollected benefits before his death.

Funeral expenses were expensive so anything would be of help. What do i have to do anyway to collect these?

Hey, sorry to hear about your loss.
Payment 6 weeks after death normally is only paid if the deceased was in receipt of an increase for a qualified adult/child. Was this the case?
You will need to contact the Department and notify them of the death, and return their social services card.
In respect of funeral expenses, the person who pays the funeral bill can apply for a bereavement grant: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/DeathAndBereavement/BereavementGrant/Pages/bereav.aspx
