Hi, was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I would really love to apply for the 2 year masters in Speech therapy but my degree is in Fine Art. (2.1)
I have been working as a special needs assistant in an early intervention unit for children with autism for the last three years. Naturally we have a lot of exposure to speech therapists in this line of work and I and am extremely interested in the area. This year I also began tutoring a boy with autism outside of school and in September I will be running an activity club for children with autism.

Though my work experience is relevant I basically want to know am I wasting my time applying, given my academic background?

    Thanking you in advance!

I read your post and do not think you are wasting your time applying for Speech therapy at all. I think your work experience is very relevant and your degree (2.1) is a good result, especially for U.L. if that is the college you are talking of. I was accepted to this course after applying last winter. I had a psychology background but was told that the application process was open to ALL degree holders as of last year. At interview, I met a girl who had a business degree and had been called to interview, so you never know who they decide on. My work experience was in intellectual disability field and I spoke primarily of this in interview, so I think your work sounds very relevant (also you work with young children which is another plus). There is no harm in applying anyway, write a good personal statement and who knows!!! It is def not impossible!

ps: now i remember, i was not really asked about content of academic background, but I had written about it in my application. Still, you can write about same skills of critical thinking, working independently, report writing all that is common in all degrees. Best of luck!!
