    Hi there,

I ordered a reconditioned iPhone 3GS from the o2.ie site the Friday before last and decided not to take insurance on it. Tonight it was dropped in a toilet with malicious intent by someone. I currently have the phone in my hotpress in a bag of uncooked rice. Is there anything I can do with regard to a speedy repair/ cost effective repair? Thanks!

You have done everything you can. If it won't work after a couple of days in rice in the hotpress, chances are you're goosed.

    Apologies.

If it was just the green, you could replace that yourself. Do a quick search on YouTube.

You are only goosed if you tried to turn it back on. My other half dropped her iphkne 4 in the jacks while it was flushing. She proceeded to take it out and run it under the tap! But the thing was I had told her not to turn it on if it ever happened. Took back off it and put in bag of rice for 9 days and voila still worked albeit camera wasn't working!..
Moral of the story: if you try turn it it on with any moisture in it whatsoever, you will kill your iphone

What ever warranty you had is gone now so you may as well try repair it yourself. The rice and hot press trick is hit and miss to be honest and not great on phones with internal batteries.

Get yourself a hairdryer, a small Phillips screw driver and and suction cup.
Videos are on YouTube on how to open a 3GS.
The longer you leave the phone with moisture inside the bigger chance of moisture damage you'll have. Especially since the battery is internal and is constantly supply a current in the phone.

If you open it and see the dried yogurt effect around the chips it's probably too late. Sometimes some isopropyl and an old toothbrush will clean off the moisture damage and bring it back to life.

My first ever iPhone took a trip down the loo during a flush. After about 12 months it came back on however the touch screen was hit and miss. Mostly miss.
