    Hi all,

not sure if this is the right section.

I want to buy a tv, i noticed that on amazon tvs say freeview HD but I know I can't get that - its for the UK..but i also checked the model number on saorview website to see if its compatible and it is... all good.

my question is some tvs say freeview and some say freeview HD, so will the tvs that say freeview be able to get saorview in HD or will I need one that says Freeview HD to receive Saorview in HD?

    Thanks.

also tvs from the uk generally don't have uhf is that right?

as in will I be forced to use saorview and wont be able to pick up the analogue if i bought a tv from amazon uk?

    thanks

Be sure to check the FULL model number for compatibility !! A model may be used across different countries but have a letter or letters appended to the model number (possibly in brackets ?) to denote its compliance for a particular system - NTSC/PAL etc.

As for your second question, in the past TV sets from the UK ONLY had UHF Tuners meaning Irish viewers needed a dreaded VHF to UHF converter. Nowadays though most sets come with full cable ready tuners covering all bands and channels. Best to check the spec of the set though to be sure.

If you post up the model number maybe a better answer would be forthcoming :)

TVs labelled Freeview or Freeview + are no good for Saorview.

Freeview HD should be ok but more research should be carried out as there may be some small problems.

Dont confuse the HD issue, all hd tvs carry freeview if its available in your area but not all freeview carry hd (or saorview) .
