"A Jewish rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a stray dog it feared was the reincarnation of a lawyer who insulted its judges, reports say."

    Seriously, what the flying f#ck?
The animal is said to have escaped before the sentence was carried out.

    Thank goodness for that!
One of the judges at the court in the city's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood had reportedly asked local children to carry out the sentence.

That'll help them grow up into well rounded individuals.

The best creatures on the face of the planet are impure?

That's the Jews off my Christmas card list.

I dunno. I heard they had pretty strong evidence. Seemingly they caught him chasing an ambulance.

F uckers. It's not hard to see why the Israelis treat Palestinians how they do when they are willing to brutally kill an animal as harmless and loveable as a dog, not saying that it would be acceptable to do it to another animal. Dogs, like all animals, are like children, they look upon people to look after them, which is why animal abuse is on the same moral level as child abuse. I hope this post doesn't read as sarcasm, because it isn't!

There is no facepalm pic epic enough. And what's with asking local kids to do the dirty work? That's a little bit sick.

The dog looks pleased with himself though.

But a court manager told Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot the stoning had been ordered as "as an appropriate way to 'get back at' the spirit which entered the poor dog", according to Ynet.

    Hang on, hang on.

We're going to do this poor dog a favour by stoning it to death in revenge for being a dead lawyer.

    Stupefying.

Oh, I LOL-ed out loud at that one.
    While we're at it:
What's the difference between a lawyer and a dog run down on the highway?
. . . Skid marks in front of the dog.

I wouldnt take this to be representative of israelis. Do yourself a favour and look up the amount of dogs killed, abandoned and mistreated in ireland due to the massive greyhound industry. I wouldnt take that as representative of us

Apparently it's all a misunderstanding. The BBC added a follow up article:
The source of the report, Israel's Maariv newspaper, apologised for its headline and for any offence caused.

The head of the court, Yehoshua Levin, was quoted by Maariv as saying: "There is no basis for abuse of animals from the side of Jewish Halacha [law].''

In a statement, the court denied that a dog had been condemned.

A dog had entered the court and been removed, it said.

The story was reported in the Israeli and international press, including the BBC News website.

The original reports said that the dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago and would not leave.

It was reported that the dog reminded a judge of a curse passed on a now deceased secular lawyer about 20 years ago, when judges bid his spirit to enter the body of a dog. The animal was said to have escaped before the sentence was carried out.

An animal welfare organisation filed a complaint with the police against a court official.

Srsly. How on earth did this ^ get misreported / mistranslated into "Rabbis condemn dog to death by stoning for being the inhabited by the re-incarnated spirit of a dead lawyer who insulted said Rabbis" ??

I'd call it "Mad Mullah" reporting. Diff religion, but in much the same way that Islamic courts records are poured through for daftness. They ignore the usually pretty bang on deliberations of said courts based on a thousand years of jurisprudence, in favour of witch trials and the like. Usually there's column inches and political points going for free.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

News update to the topic says there was no such order given by the court...

Indeed it appears either there is funny quick to fame reporting took place or under the pressure the case is suppressed.

Those kind of lies annoy me, from either side of the religious spectrum. :(
