    Hi all,

I got windows 7 today and intend doing a full fresh install and was wondering does anyone know what is the best way to save my itunes and all its contents to an external hard drive or ipod or whatever so I can put it back on my computer once I've completed the install?

    Thanks in advance.

    Wow!!!!

Could it actually be that painless?? Has anyone done this before as I'm terrified I'll lose everything. I was doing some google searches and there's all this software to download and stuff so didn't think it would be as painless as it looks like on that link.

I kinda need to do similar in reverse .

My laptop got stolen recently but I have all my music still on my 80gb iPod .

How can I get all my music from the iPod back into a fresh install of iTunes on my new laptop ?

All i did was copy the Itunes folder, When youve reinstalled itunes on the fresh windows install, open itunes, close it again. Then copy the itunes folder from your External Drive and replace it with the one in your Music folder. Open Itunes again and it'll start loading all your tunes and stuff again, Very painless indeed :)

No it doesn't!!!! iTunes only syncs one way unless you use something like Sharepod for PCs, or senuti for Mac.

It doesn't, full stop. Apple deliberately stop the iPods/iPhones transferring their songs back to a PC to stop illegal sharing. That's why you need 3rd party software to do it.

You could use free software called sharepod to copy the music from your iPod and then import that music into iTunes.

The process you outlined did not work. PC / laptop is irrelevant. As stated, Itunes is one way sync. If you sync your populated i device with a new laptop / pc, it will wipe it.
