Since there's a football topic, it seems a shame to discriminate against the hurlers. :p

    I think:

    1. Brendan Cummins
    2. Noel Connors
    3. Paul Curran
    4. Jackie Tyrell
    5. Tommy Walsh
    6. Brick Walsh
    7. JJ Delaney
    8. Brendan Maher
    9. Michael Fennelly
    10. Henry Shefflin
    11. Noel McGrath
    12. Eoin Larkin
    13. Eoin Kelly
    14. Lar Corbett
    15. John Mullane

    Couple of things.....

I rate Jackie Tyrell but if his performance against Wexford is anything to go by, then he won't be anywhere near a top XV. I'm assuming that was just a blip.

Some may question me leaving out Joe Canning...but I think all 3 in the full forward line are better and that Canning is overrated.

I was tempted to put in Seamus Hickey but he hasn't played corner-back in a while and I couldn't justify putting him at wing-back.

Either Richie Power or Eoin Larkin had to be in there, and I think Larkin is a better all-round player.

I do have the feeling that I'm leaving someone really good out though...

Its about right. Couldn't disagree with it but the season has only just begun so you can be sure there'll be changes to that. Agree about Canning, but if the comitee can half justify it he'll get an all star

What about Padraig Maher - surely he is worth a mention?

Also are Tipp, KK and Waterford that far ahead of everyone else that none of the players from the other counites are worthy of getting on this Best Hurling XV?

Padraic Maher. I'd have him wing back ahead of JJ.

Are you basing this on current (ths year) form or on past reputation? Seems a bit much not have any Dublin representation considering they won the league well.

If its just based on the championship its a bit soon considering everyone (bar Clare who havent played yet!) has only played one game.

Donal O Grady worth a mention in midfield? What do ye think?

Well if it was based on this years championship to date, then Brendan Maher couldn't be included as he hasn't played a game for Tipp yet.

I'd imagine it's an opinion formed on who is the best 15 in the country not neccesarily on form. There's no point in complaining about no represetation from other counties if you don't give a specific example.

Padraic Maher is a very good player and I did consider him but I think JJ is fantastic. I did consider it but as of now, I have JJ higher. Just my opinion though.

And yes they are imo. Kilkenny and Tipp are a good step ahead of everyone and Waterford are lucky that they have two players of really top class in Brick and Mullane. Noel Connors is arguable maybe, but he's as good as anyone else. I wouldn't throw someone in just for the sake of representing other counties.

I'm basing this on recent form which would have to include last year's Championship as the main indicator. League is all well and good but Championship performances over the last few seasons take precedent. So I count form and ability...and what heights I think they will reach this season. If someone is injured...they could still be the best player in that position.

I thought about him but Maher and Fennelly are ahead of him atm. Probably Shane McGrath and Rice too.

This really. I mean Dublin are obviously very good but what players would be included?? Keaney or someone? I couldn't justify it ahead of some of the others atm.

Donal Keaney should be one of the first names on that team. Has be brilliant all year. Liam Rushe and Peter Kelly are two other cracking Dub hurlers. I'd have Keaney over Larkin, Rushe over Maher.

god its a hard team to pick. i have ito think about Shane Dooley and Derek Morkan from Offaly, Dooley put up big score on his own, And Morkan has skill but it get over look cause of who he hurl with.

I think his name is Conal Keaney.

After the game tonight in Tullamore, Liam Rushe could be pushing for inclusion in this best XV.

Does anyone else think that Eoin Larkin has been poor the last 2 years?( compared to his usual standards anyway)

if its based on this year; Downes, Keaney and Peter Kelly would have to be in the team anyway for me.

I think Donal Og Cusack should be in goal.
Hes in a pretty poor Cork team but has brought goalkeeping to a different level.Never panics and always picks his passes out.

Also Donal Og Grady instead of Michael Fennelly even though both are very good.

Shane O Neill or Paddy Stapleton in corner back

And they score 10-20 today? :P

Ah no, Cummins is the best keeper around. Didn't see last nights game, but I have been very impressed with Paul Ryan since he came on (think it was against Galway) and started ever since. On form he'd be in corner forward, but to be fair I don't think he's better then Kelly, Corbett or Mullane.

Brendan Cummins' grip on the hurley will always make him an inferior goalkeeper to the likes of Donal Og, he's too easily beaten on his left. Conal Keaney would have to be in there ahead of Larkin. Dotzy O'Callaghan wouldnt be far off either.

Cummins is better than Cusack. Damien Fitzhenry was the last one who had a fair claim to being as good as/better than Cummins, and Davy Fitzgerald was also a very good keeper. Cusack is very good, but not amazing.

making chest height stops look fantastic by diving or dramatic doesnt make him a better keeper. Damien Fitz was sheer class however. Cummins is a drama queen

Fitzhenry was one of the best shot stoppers around, just sad I never got the chance to see him play.

It's always reassuring as a Tipp fan to have Cummins as the last line of defence, really gives a lot of confidence. Looking very sharp so far this season.
