I was in oz last year and while I was there I flew from Cairns to Sydney with virgin blue. I thought it was excellent, even though it was low fares, it was far better than aer lingus or ryanair. However I see they have rebranded themselves as Virgin Australia and they have created a new ad to promote the new rebrand. I think its an excellent ad. Its modern, punchy and immediately grabs you. I also love the music. I have attached a link. What do you think of it?

You have to consider the environment that each airline operates in. Ryanair are the original Ultra Low Cost Carrier (ULCC) in a massively competitive European market, while Aer Lingus have transitioned from flag/legacy full service into a hybrid airline.

Virgin Blue essentially started as an EasyJet type operation as a competitor to Qantas. They are similar to JetBlue in the US. The rebranding is part of the overall integration of the Virgin brand in the Asia/Pacific region.

Personally I love the JetBlue/Virgin America/Virgin Blue niche. It is a new form of LCC that's appeals to a huge market. I honestly think the Aer Lingus (With a dose of initiative and imagination) could mould themselves into a version of this for the Irish/European market.
