Am I over reacting, or is it weird and creepy for a guy to buy his mother the same perfume that his girlfriend wears?

Only if he starts buying his mother the same underwear she wears also.

    Of course its wrong.

    Think of the consequences.

Who knows what could happen after a few shandys too many.

    Doesn't bear thinking about.

Then again OP - its your son.

    You know him best.

Who are we to judge ?

If she wears the same perfume as the girlfriend, that could get awkward one night he comes home with a feed of drink on him....

If he starts sporting it himself as well I would run quite fast if I was you.

It is Chanel, but his mother didn't know what it was until she smelled it on his girlfriend who was horrified when she found out he was going to buy some for his mother and one his sisters!

Ah, I see, you're jealous you're not in on the action. Make your feelings clear by dousing yourself in whatever he's buying for them and dropping the hand on one of the 3 of them, doesn't matter which. Then report back here, with pics of the hilarious but sexy consequences. You're welcome.

To be honest, I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with it. He probably thought it smelled nice and they'd both like it. Generally, men wouldn't think about it any more than that. He probably has no idea it would be considered weird.

I probably wouldn't wear it if I were the gf though. Was it nice perfume or cheap perfurme?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,826 ✭✭✭phill106

I def think its a bit weird... Sure when it comes to sexy time, thats all that she (the gf) would be wearing, and thats when he needs to be reminded of his mother?
    No thank you!

i don't know anything about perfume so - i look to see what perfume the missus wears and then going on that assume that it is nice stuff so buy it for your auld doll happy knowing that at least one other woman thinks the stuff is nice...

by doing this I can avoid the "looking like a bolix who goes round smelling perfumes in a shop" stage and be in and out of the shop in 2 minutes...

don't you realise that most men couldn't give a **** as long as the perfume isn't putrid...

I love the smell of that, id wear it myself :o(and im a hardy lumberjack)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,216 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Sounds like he is just lazy.

Rule of thumb, most men dont actually care what the perfume smells like if its a gift. They will buy what they have been told is nice or looks like a familiar bottle.

You are making up scenarios in your head which simply arent true and are possibly showing more about yourself than the lad in question. IMHO he represents 90% of lazy lads.

Me i know my perfumes, got the good sense of smell from my grandad. That guy had a superb sense of smell.

Yes, it's weird and creepy. But it's far creepier that she was willing to sell it to him.

If he gives it to all the women around him then it seems he likes Chanel and doesn't have the imagination to get anything else

    Mountain > molehill.

Yup. I'd be with y'there Watna. Smells alright. Do women like that? Sound. Cos I've no fcuking idea. Wouldn't like to get it terribly wrong.

Kinda like asking a bird what the goat's cheese salad is like, cos you couldn't tell a good one from a bad one.

Would it be weird if her bf steered her dad away from the ribs and towards the skewered beef because he's had every starter with meat in it?

Well, thanks for summing up the simplicity of us poor dumb men Dr Ruth.

Generally men don't like to be reminded of their mothers while riding.
