I recently finished a fetac level 5 course and went for an interview for fetac level 6 of the course and i got a letter yesterday saying i did not get into the level 6 course and im trully gutted about it.

I also applyed for WIT but i done foundation maths in the leaving cert and have a feeling thats going to go against me.

Im starting to panic a bit about September. Im 21 so im not too old but im not too young either.

I want to go to third level college for the social life (drinking and non drinking) but it seems to be a huge burden in my life. I believe i would be better than some of the wasters in college now a days.

    Any advice ???

Get a job and do college through the Open University? You are only two years out of your teenage years.

Is the only reason you want to go for the social life? If so, that's not a great reason. College is hard and requires a lot of hard work. Perhaps in your interview for the level 6 course you said something about the social life and they thought you wouldn't be there to learn or do any work?

If the social life is the only reason you want to go to college then it would be a complete waste of your time.

If there are other reasons you want to go (like to actually learn and better yourself) why not try work for the year and sit ordinary maths next year?

You can only apply for certain courses in the ITs with foundation maths.
You should have looked at the college prospectus to see what courses they offer that allow foundation maths.

You need to ring the admissions office or look at the prospectus straight away and see what they can do for you.

They will be able to tell you if you are still able to change your CAO (and if not, ask for the Admissions officer and be nice-explain your situation nicely and see what they can do for you).

Alternatively, apply for a FETAC level 6 in another college somewhere, get this and then reapply next year to the course you want using this (always good advice to do the level 6 in something related to the course you want to do-for example, something in IT, do an IT level 6).

Alternatively, wait 2 more years and at 23 you will qualify as a mature student.

You've got to start thinking laterally and take your blinkers off and inform yourself a little better if you really really want to go to college.
