Closed-panel timber frame arrived on Wednesday with aluclad windows taped and sealed in place. Blood pressure rising already due to dent in alu on one window and scratch on patio door, dreading when block layer and plasterer start on site.

Any advice on best way to cover and tape the windows/doors/alu cills for protection?

If it arrived to site like that I hope you pointed it out and told them to fix it. As for the builders, I just hope you're lucky and get a builder who cares. My guy never covered my sandstone cills and they're stained and have bits on them now.

Could you tape heavy cardboard to them at the edges? Make sure it doesn't leave residue on the window

Photograph any damage and point it out straight away, payments for that element should not be paid until you are satisfied with it.

Regarding the blocklayers, are they your appointment or not?

Blocklayers are appointed by main contractor. Main contractor has come back to suggest cling film on alu cills during plastering outside and a low tack tape on windows inside to plaster up to and then trim off when done. sounds like a good solution.

the damage has only been done since arrival on site, have pics and details ready for a 'discussion' first thing on Monday morning!

There is a thick paint you can get, some window companies use it to cover their windows, you just paint it on and when it dries you can just peal it off like a thin skin of rubber. You could cover the whole window, door and cills with it.
