where to get a Humax Foxsat HDR repaired?

I have a Humax Foxsat HDR (which I bought on adverts, brand new - apparetly!) and the problem I have with it is that is seems to have a lose connection or something like that, as it just won't come on sometimes. I then have to switch it on and off and the main switch on the back about ten times until it eventually comes on and boots. Then when it is on and I switch it off to standby and try and switch it on the next day, it doesn't react so again have to flick the main switch. Also when I program it to record something, 9 times out of 10 it won't, because it won't come on as programmed. When it does work I'm happy enough with it, and I paid enough for it, so don't want to throw it out. Is there anywhere in Dublin that does repairs on these things? Is it worth my while having it fixed?

Don't know any thing about this box, but have you checked the leads in the plug if it's not a sealed plug.

The way it sounds though is the power light, standby time is functioning, but the box is not responding. Does the box get very hot, as some boxes will freeze if the air vents are restricted. Disconect the LNB-aerial lead and scart leads any other leads and see if the box is switching on and off ok, if not then must be within the box. check out the software version, see if theres an update. Once the box is running any problems playing/manualy-recording programmes.
Apart from that (sounds like you wouldn't open the box) so...... surely there's a tech in Capital-city

That sounds like a power supply fault. Contact Humax UK and they may well sort you out, they are good like that. Also, check out the waranty situation.

The power supply is very easy to change as it just has plug connectors.

One thing worth trying is to replace the fuse in the plug. It's a long shot, but I have seen intermittent fuses in the past, and it's easy to swap.

Thanks everyone so much for getting back. I've been playing with the menu and settings and found that I could switch an energy save function off and so far so good - it started displaying the time on stadby and has reacted to the switch on from standby. Think maybe there is something wrong with the hybernation function or something, it goes to sleep too much, and can't be woken up :-) I will keep observing and if that doesn't prove a permanent fix I will try all your suggestions.
