Former 'X Factor' star Mary Byrne will be amongst the guests this week on 'Saturday Night with Miriam'.

As well as performing on the show, the singer will talk about meeting the Queen and supporting Neil Diamond in the Aviva next weekend.

Also appearing on the show is Gerald Keane who will speak about the recent burglary of his home when his fiancée Lisa Murphy was attacked and robbed.

RTÉ newsreader Michael Murphy and his partner Terry O'Sullivan, who celebrated their civil partnership at a Dublin registry office earlier this week, will join Miriam on the couch.

Finally, Marie Staunton, horticulturist and former model will also stop by. Staunton will talk about taking part in the first ever, 'Supermodel Show', in Dublin alongside Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen.

'Saturday Night with Miriam' airs tomorrow night, 18 June on RTÉ One at 10pm.

Disappointing line up,Miriam will struggle to do anything with that guest list - Bring back DLB?

Heard all of their stories before.. And they werent interesting the first time..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,873 ✭✭✭Skid

Miriam was interviewed and said "she believes Irish audiences want to hear stories from Irish people" - I think she is correct, but not the same old faces time and time again.

Have to agree with her about not using notes, it leads to a more natural interview.

    http://www.rte.ie/ten/2011/0613/ocallaghanm1.html
The presenter has said before that she believes Irish audiences want to hear stories from Irish people: "I do believe that and Gay Byrne always said that and he's the guru."

Talking about how she felt Saturday night's programme went, she said: "I was slightly worried because I was so relaxed. It's not that I'm not aware it's live television, so I'd still have that slight edge of terror but I just find it very easy at this stage, so I just enjoy myself and I think it works.

"It's like, as someone said, it's eavesdropping on a nice conversation. It's less formal, I can't put my finger on it but it works, thank God."

She added: "The producers who work with me, like Larry Masterson, who have worked with loads of people, would tell you that people do things their own way.

"The one thing that I think works, I don't use notes and I think it makes a difference because sometimes if you're interviewing someone and you've done your pre questions then they might say something interesting but I'm thinking I should be going to my next question.

"So we structure it the same way but then I abandon them, I put it all in my head and I bring no papers into studio with me.

"I'm a swat, I learn it all, I know it all and I have a photographic memory so it's the one thing that helped me in my Leaving Cert - I'm thinking of my twins, who are doing the Leaving Cert at the moment."

She added: "It's not like I'm pretending that I swan in and everything's off the top of my head, I have it all structured and I know everything about the person in front of me and the team have given me all the questions but what I don't do is stick to it. I have the information but I go where they [the interviewee] takes me."

It's live? Hmm..I attended one of the shows once and she had to do the entrance again as she fluffed it the first time.

Perhaps she meant "live tv" in the same way that Prime Time is "live".

She's probably not the only one thinking of her twins - they must be amazingly talented to be doing the Leaving Cert?!. :pac:

As far as I know it was only the first series of Saturday Night with Miriam that was pre-recorded. It was the same with Brendan O'Connor, his shows were pre-recorded initially and one week after Michael Barrymore's infamous appearance, the show went live.

I have a lot of time for Michael Murphy, he gave Tubs a very brave account of his battle with cancer on the the LLS a while back. It is nice to see that things are looking up for him.

I'd rather have him seen as a representation of me, as a gay man, than Alan Hughes.

What's wrong with Hughes.. I wouldnt find him that offensive.. though given that he's on TV3 morning television, he probably fades into insignificance behind all other the other offensive characters..

I've actually lost a little bit of respect for Michael Murphy since he started all of this dream analysis rubbish.. (He was on with Mooney the other week "reading" dreams for people, like an oul Gypsy woman in a coloured tent at the fairground)..

I have only two categories for people in my life - those I like/love or those I dislike. I must admit, I like Alan Hughes alot.

Maybe its a TV3 snob thing, but catching a clip Hughes on The Salon made me cringe!

I just don't like labelling people. I think that Michael Murphy is a nice man, I don't feel the need to say that he is nice gay man.

That is quite possible AM, she would be good for ratings I'd say. She was a fabulous model in her day. I think she is still doing some modelling work.

Apparently she has presented a one off gardening show on TV3 in the past ...
Through her experience on TV as a model and her extensive horticultural knowledge Marie co- hosted a one hour TV special “Another Avenue” for Bloom 2009 with Paul Martin which, gave the viewer an insight into the amazing ways gardens are created.

I'm so disappointed about this. Can't believe that Georgia has fallen for his "charms". Doesn't she know that he has a habit of picking up girlfriends on reality tv shows? Remember Bianca Gascoigne, he hooked up with her when he appeared on "Celebrity Love Island".

I'm definitely not a fan of Calum's, he should grow up and get a proper job instead of living of his dad's name. As far as his looks go he is not a patch on the beautiful and talented George.

You'd wonder why she "hitched her wagon to his star" as Judge Judy would say.. I mean she mustn't read the papers that she is frequently pictured in..

How is Miriam doing this year anyway, I only saw a bit of last week's show.. She seems to be a small bit more comfortable with the camera, but she's still fawning all over people.. She must have rented "Tubridy's Guide To Bootlicking" from Xtravision.. She needs to cut that out, and stop being so palsy with the guests..

Last week's show was very depressing, nearly all her guests spoke about serious illness, there was way too much illness for one show.

As for Miriam, I'd say she is genuinely a really nice lady, I have only ever heard very positive reports about her from people who have met her. I don't think she is "fawning all over people", I think she is naturally flirty and she is genuinely interested in the people she interviews and is affected by their stories. Saturday Night with Miriam is not Prime Time so I don't think people are expecting her to grill or interrogate anyone.

My god those National Lottery shows are the most retarded shows ever created... I mean how can you make the giving away of such large amounts of money soooooooooooo boring and un-entertaining.. Games on it you would expect to keep a four year old entertained for 60 seconds..

Totally agree, but I'd say they have to keep the games very basic as it is mainly older people who are buying lottery tickets and they aren't always familiar with technology.

The regulations state that there must be no test of skill whatsoever in the National Lottery Games, which means the games are completely childish.

Jesus H Christ , Crimecall just advertised there that they will be showing a reconstruction of the robbery at Gerald Keane's house... I mean this crime has one specific preventative measure.. i.e. dont bring your loud mouthed missus out while wearing 1 million euro worth of the jewellry and have her tell everyone (who'll listen) about it

You would have to wonder what Georgia is worth in jewelry terms, if that Lisa Murphy one is worth buying 1.5 million worth of jewelry for.. I mean, what's she gonna get from Best, a bottle of his "fragrance"?

Gerard Kean has always represented football players, popstar and showbiz types so I suppose that is why he is referred to a "Celebrity Lawyer".

So Neil Diamond is playing a concert here, and Mary Byrne is supporting him?

This is news to me - you think they would stick a few ads on the radio for it :)
