    probably a strange one...

have been waiting all year to upgrade my desire to one of the newer phone and got the text today to say its time.
and i started thinking what i would be upgrading for, and i'm not sure if i have any reason to change. the desire does everything and i would just be changing mainly for the sake of it (small improvements but not revolution etc)
i was going to wait for a sensation but it looks a bit weak compared to the SGS2 (particularly on internal storage - sick of A2SD) so if i upgrade its probably SGS2

but, then i got another offer, Jailbroken ipad for around 300 (16gb 3g) and i started thinking thats pretty cool offer but i will probably get sick of apple after a while, wont i?

i probably would do one or the other (or neither)! someone please convince me what to do or ask me some questions that will make me think about my choice.

    tks

Do you need the bigger screen? if yes - ipad

do you need an actual phone? if yes - gs2

do you need to annotate pdfs? if yes - ipad alhtough you can on gs2, i find it crap mostly

you have a desire, then get an ipad if you want to buy something new.

thats the lines along which i am thinking.
    i have a netbook and a desire
    so its
    netbook and SGS2
    or
    ipad and desire

trying to work out which combo is better. i really only the use the netbook for browsing and remote desktop but then from time to time i will use it to open a file etc and if i replace it with the ipad i know i will be fine 99% of the time but then that 1% i will be annoyed.

decisions, decisions - will probably end up getting neither for some reason or another hehe

I would keep using the desire and netbook for as long as you can and then use the money you have to upgrade to ipad 3/4 or the next generation (or 24th) Android phone by that stage.

this is not a wholly rational decision

iPad + Desire for sure. I have an original iPad and its 95% as good as my wifes iPad2 for day to day use, obviously if you care about the camera and the facetime ****e the iPad 2 does have something over it, but thats irrelevant to me personally. iPad >>> Android tablets for now, though that will change imho, but not for 12mths+ as the tablet apps on android market mature and ice cream comes out.

I upgraded my Desire to a Sensation recently as my wife had a free upgrade on her contract, its a super phone and I love it, but your Desire can run everything an SGS2 or Sensation can pretty much. The main differentiator is the camera on the desire is super ****e and the SGS2 and Sensation cameras are awesome. Cyanogen Mod is going to keep pumping out the new iterations of Android for the Desire for a while yet!

    My 2c.

Definitely iPad + Desire is the way to go. iPad is a lot better than a netbook, IMHO, as it's instant on, browsing is lovely, you can open and edit most files, including office docs, etc. Much lighter and more portable than a net book and arguably a better keyboard too (although you probably would not be writing a thesis on either!)

Great answers guys, appreciate what you are saying regarding both devices

Get a netbook instead. You can get ones with SSD and they are as fast as the ipad. You will regret getting a tablet device especially when you have to type.
